So the story i heard him relate is that he was having a hard time coming up with this song until one night he was on a flight into NYC n his plane was in a holding pattern. When he suddenly rwslized he kept seeing the moon appear in his wondow as they circled. The line caught between the moon n NYC is what came to him

This song won the Academy Award for best original song, beating "Endless Love" sung by Diana Ross and Lionel Ritchie. I am glad "Arthur's Theme" won. One of Christopher Cross's best songs. I also love "Ride Like The Wind" which was his first song. "Call Me" by Blondie kept that song out of the number one spot for weeks. 😞

My hubby absolutely loves Christopher's effortless tenor. "Sailing" is fantastic, of course, but this song has a magic all its own. Incredibly melodic with seamless transitions from verse to chorus. Shame Christopher's style of music didn't resonate with listeners as much as the years went on.

There was a lull between the hard party 70s and the high-speed 80s when MTV arrived.
Guys like Christopher Cross kept me sane growing up.
"Easy listening" WAS a "thing"!
