One of the reasons that Huey and the News has my #1 is that you can listen to the same songs just for fun, for relaxing, or for serious contemplation of life and the issue of the moment. So many times I would have some dilemma on my mind and I would find solace and answers in a song.
Walking on a Thin Line was always a song that just stood out to me. Far later, when I found out what it was written about, it helped me to look at Vietnam vets with more understanding.

I remember when this song came out on the radio. I was a junior in high school. My dad was a Vietnam era vet but never served over seas. I grew up with many Vietnam vets and they were great men. Some were haunted about things they did for the rest of their lives. We really should be doing better for the ones left and those current vets.

Seen a ton of forgettable opening acts.

Quite a few surprisingly good ones.

And 3 WHO BLEW ME AWAY WITH GENUINELY EPIC SETS…

SRV opening for MEN AT WORK (who were fantastic).

VAN HALEN opening for BLACK SABBATH (BLEW ‘EM OFF THE STAGE, WE SPLIT MIDWAY OF SABBATH’S SET!)

And HUEY LEWIS & THE NEWS OPENING for THE POLICE JUST BEFORE YOUR FIRST ALBUM DROPPED WERE AS GOOD AS IT GETS!!

You were TIGHT & RELENTLESSLY HARD ROCKING! HUEY WORE THE HARMONICA HOLSTER & WAILED, ESPECIALLY IN DUETS WITH GUITAR & SAXOPHONE!

And you had the ONLY LEGIT ENCORE I’VE SEEN! LIGHTS WERE UP, YOUR CREW WAS TAKING THINGS DOWN & WE WERE STILL GOING NUTS IN THE CROWD!

I loved being at one of these concerts on the “Sports” tour. Great fun, great times.
