used to know a guy who did this, he was one of the owners of the foriegn correspondents club in phnom penh, and worked in cambo as a lawyer. but he only paid 50k usd it was really cheap back then i think he got it in the 90s. he was questioned a lot at borders and gave up trying to explain, just said that he was married to a cambodian. he was quite disappointed that he didnt actually get to meet the king. officially you were supposed to have an audience with the king to decide if you were a suitable citizen but in reality it just involved paying off some royal aide

I found Japan to be my favorite place and where I want to live. Unfortunately, they don't allow multiple citizenship so I will just have permanent residency for Japan instead and get multiple citizenship elsewhere.

Very Informative! Cambodia would be a great option... owning land... freedom of movement throughout much of Asia... growing markets... sounds solid to me! Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

Good video! I call these programs citizenship *for* investment, as the goal isn't global mobility. It's an entry ticket to invest in one of the world's fastest growing economies as a local.

In practice, the donation route is much more common. The business investment route must be under a qualified investment project (QIP). These can only be in certain sectors, like manufacturing, and each sector has its own minimum investment amount - most of them well above $300k.

In addition to 250 thousand donation, they want a total of 90 thousand administrative fee, so the cheapest option is 340 thousand.

Being able to access Vietnam without having to obtain a visa (huge pain in the a__) is a pretty good reason to invest in Cambodia. And still a short drive to Thailand.

it only makes sense if you originate from somewhere that's not part of the G7. and, remember that you must lock-in significant amount of funds in a 2nd to 3rd grade country in their banking system that is completely control by the government and their bureaucracies. in addition, some residence visa requires that you must purchase their real estate directly from developer direct but can not sell the property once you bought until after a long period of time, like 10 years. imo, it is better to rotate visit the different countries in Asia, instead of long term stay in one country. life should be simplified as a person ages. dealing with depreciating currency and real estate is one sure way to loose capital and add stress to a person's life.

Isn't the 7 year naturalization period still there if you don't want to donate or invest? There's also a marriage route, I believe.

Thailand now taxes all foreign remittances at 35% and as of next year all global income at 35%. Not tax friendly. And good luck dealing with the tax bureaucracy here.

Andrew, true a number of countries in Asia restrict their citizenship... namely they don't like dual citizens among other things.

I have the "right to residence" in two Asian countries as a US citizen, but I will never get my citizenship there. Not worth giving up my US passport yet. The countries I will mention don't exactly have established programs. I get this by my family ties.

1) India: I am of Indian background. I am a USA citizen by birth. India doesn't allow dual citizenship. I have what is called as an OCI visa. That is how I can reside in India. I have the right to work if I want it, but I don't see the need for India yet.

2) Vietnam: I am what they call a foreign spouse of a Vietnam citizen. My wife of 20 years is a dual US and Vietnam citizen. I get a visa waiver as a result. My wife is what they call as a Viet Kieu. Vietnam has a funny citizenship law. If you were born a Vietnam citizen, you can be a dual citizen and keep your Vietnam citizenship. If you naturalize as a Vietnam citizen, you must renounce your previous citizenship. That is why I will not get Vietnam citizenship.
