Who made Christopher Columbus the bad guy of history? Who is most responsible for today's effort to eliminate Columbus Day and tear down Columbus statues and monuments? Who did more than any other to change the narrative of Columbus from hero to villain?

The answer: Howard Zinn.

In 1980, Professor Zinn published a scathing rebuke of America's past in "A People's History of the United States." A serious assault on Columbus made for quick reading in chapter one of the book. But, how accurate and scholarly is Professor Zinn's conclusion that Columbus is nothing more than a maniacal exploiter undeserving of celebration?

Publisher and editor of PRIMO, Truby Chiaviello, has read "A People's History of the United States" not to mention many other books on Columbus and American history. He explains why Zinn's book should be disregarded and dismissed in today's debate on Columbus.
