The victim, a 39-year-old man named Jedidiah Barker, had drawn his gun on a waitress after she told him that the restaurant was out of bacon before pointing his revolver at an unidentified man who tried to defuse the situation. He eventually dueled the man, only to be shot and killed before he could fire his revolver. Soon, it was determined that this unidentified man was Marty Waterhouse and the shooting was ruled as self-defense.
