I'm Conflicted About the Latest Episode of the Mandalorian... (Season 3 Episode 3 Review)

Well, this was unexpected. I did not anticipate a trip to Coruscant, and I most certainly did not expect episode 3 of season 3 of the Mandalorian to be DOMINATED by two characters I barely remembered. Just when I was beginning to enjoy Din and Bo-Katan's scenes, they took them away from me for the vast majority of the episode, and shoved in my face a bunch of scenes that could have been drip-fed over the course of several episodes, making the experience more tolerable.

When you're trying to write an episode of Andor and your only experience is writing for Boba Fett 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

When the former Imperials were referred to by a number instead of a name, I literally said to my husband, "Cassian Andor died for this?" This version of the New Republic felt like a slap in the face to the entire story of the Rebellion. This is what they all fought and sacrificed for? It was astonishingly disappointing.

Not a fan of the portrayal of the New Republic. The demilitarisation is so stupid, and the way their politicians are so detached from the reality across the galaxy seems more in-line with the Republic of the Clone Wars era. There's also no way that the Rebels we know would dehumanise the Imperials and not use them practically after they've surrendered.

Here is the thing, there is a difference between telling your boss that equipment set to be recycled is still good and someone might be able to use it, and stealing the equipment and using it yourself. His worry was not that it was simply imperial tech, but that he would have a very hard time convincing anyone that found it in his space that he had a right to use it. That would not be an issue if the government repurposed it. It is ironic that his melon is cooked with an imperial brain cooker, so apparently the new republic isn't totally against imp tech.

The train scene wasn't a contradiction. If imperial tech is getting destroyed in mass, then it's no far stretch to assume it'd be illegal to possess. So he was probably just worried about what would happen when someone inevitably finds out all his lab tech is imperial

I think that’s the idea. They were meant to be kinda awkward, because anything that could be seen as slightly imperial sympathising would have got them brainwashed

Yeah i feel like the episode tried to be Andor, but the writers just dont know how to write something on that level, also the New Republic is a joke

The fact that they CONSTANTLY mention that now they're under the New Republic and not under the Empire anymore is exhausting.

I got the idea they needed to know what Pershing needed for investigation so someone else can continue it. You see the interest most of the senators have on cloning as a way to stay young and living forever, but I feel they could never trust Pershing to actually help them in this goal, because then he'd be doing the same thing he did for the Empire
I did got a little suspicious about the whole reintegration program, everything was sketchy as hell, ngl.
Lastly your idea they should've shown us this in the course of several episodes, TOTALLY AGREED

I am NOT a fan of this episode for many reasons. Bo not telling Din about the mythosaur or joining Din into this cult is my least problems with the episode. The fact that how previously we LOVED the rebels and were supportive of helping the galaxy be better was ALL flipped on our heads when they started acting like their enemy the EMPIRE which is STILL out there btw. In such a short time we get brainwashed concentration campers willing to rebel because of how they are treated. There is no debating on dealing what to do with the research Pershing wants to continue. They just take it and fry his brain. Where is Leia? Monmothma? Admiral Ackbar? Dodana? Where is Han or Chewy? Luke isn't helping his sister AT ALL

I think Bo joining Din's cult makes sense. Bo has lost all her followers and when she went to mandalore, she was reminded that all of her culture has been destroyed. The cult is probably one of the only communities holding onto some semblance of mandalorian culture (even if it is different). Keeping in mind, the cult embraces many of mandalorian mythos like bathing in the waters.

With aiding Din in his quest, she was invited into the cult (again, probably the only group left with rich mando culture) and was shown respect. Would be pretty hard to easily toss that invite to the side.

I think anyone that has lost their civilization would be open to a familiar community.

IMO: I quite liked the episode. I think it was interesting to see the flaws of the New Republic + I think it'll be a good set up for what's to come

For a reason that Bo Khatan isn’t taking off her helmet it never even occurred to me that she had a habit of taking it off but also it would help to hide her emotions. In a scene where Bo is trying to determine what Din saw or did not see it would make sense she keep her helmet on and hide her face. Never taking it off period is a little weird I agree but still it made sense during the scene itself to me.

This episode pissed me off. The intense incompetence and inconsistency: the new republic won't use any imperial equipment, EXCEPT A MIND FLAYER THAT HAS NO SECURITY AND IS LEFT UNATTENDED WITH A FORMER IMPERIAL

While the dialogue from the people other than the doctor felt a bit off, and the rat lady only having the doctor caught after he steals the lab equipment didn't make sense, I really liked this episode. It felt like we were actually building up to the political problems of the new republic and finally have something to care about. It was not anywhere andor quality, but it's trying to be more like andor which I hope they can find better gripping at.

The most frustrating part about these shows is that as soon as they introduce a cool and interesting idea, they immediately scrap all of it for some half-baked agenda

I have a theory, but I'm uncertain of it. It feels a little contrived, but it wouldn't be too far off for the series. What if Kane's still following Gideon's orders? It's clearly shown that in the season finale of season 2, that the heroes wipe out everyone on the bridge, I think Gideon even comments on it, so how did Kane escape when she was clearly in the previous scenes moments before they storm the light cruiser?

I think it's possible that Gideon's worst enemy wouldn't be the people that brought him in, but his allies that knew what he was doing. Pershing's knowledge of everything they were up to would be detrimental to any plans he might have. So he orders someone he knows he can trust to go undercover and find him, and considering that our heroes stole the very shuttle he was in, it's a good assumption that he'd end up in the new republic's custody. So that's where she goes too.

She's obviously been there longer than him, so I imagine it was just a waiting game to see if and when he might finally show up. and what better way to ensure someone's not gonna talk about their plans than to wipe his mind. It ensures he can't talk about them, and she doesn't get in trouble. But again, this theory's pretty far fetched, and I'm grasping at straws, but this is the best I could come up with this early on in the series.

I have a feeling this is just leading up to something big, maybe something along the lines of 'they need the doctor but he's a little mind wiped, and so instead they have to go to Gideon for whatever they need.' or something like that. Otherwise, Pershing's mind wipe wouldn't really serve a narrative purpose.

Really liked the Pershing stuff, but the chase sequence just wasn’t it, like why is every dogfight in these shows just the good guy ship being absolutely swarmed by enemy fighters, like that’s not cool or entertaining, it’s just boring and makes those fighters feel useless, it’s the same with all the v wing encounters in the bad batch, like have 1 or 2 really dangerous fighters attack them or if you wanna do more, have their attacks be coordinated in interesting and engaging ways, instead of just having all of them chase the big ship from the same distance, that kinda swarm approach works in big space battles, where you need larger numbers to do anything at all, like the massive swarm of tie fighters taking off from the shield gate in rogue 1 or in specific cases, like Thrawn’s wall of tie fighters defending Lothal, but having a random number of equally useless fighters just chase one big ship for extended periods of time lining themselves up to be shot down, instead of splitting off trying different tactics or using things like their superior speed to their advantage is just boring and honestly stupid, aside from that it was kind of a fun action sequence, things like that one tie waiting behind to stop mando from getting to his fighter and Bo’s maneuver to finish the last one off we’re cool, but moments like that just can’t carry the entire engagement

And can we talk about how dopey the New Republic cops look?

Great videos, man (I’ve watched four so far and hit the like and subscribe buttons). I like that you’re really even handed, not just taking the easy pot shots, but finding things to admire. I think you e been spot on. Keep up the amazing work!
