Leanne's story. Target Ovarian Cancer's Christmas Appeal 2022

Our Christmas campaign for 2022 is in memory of Leanne. It features her sister, Natalie, who shares their story.

Leanne tragically died last December – only eight days after receiving a diagnosis of ovarian cancer.

It’s a devasting story, but one we believe must be heard to help demonstrate the important work that still needs to be done. We’re targeting what’s important - symptoms awareness, early diagnosis, better treatments and support for all.

£21 could help us to train three more GPs to spot ovarian cancer earlier...

So we don’t lose more sisters like Leanne. #NotYourSister

Scans will show tumors and cysts, but will not diagnose as to whether they are malignant. There is no simple blood test to detect ovarian cancer. Blood tests will indicate that something is amiss, similar to the PSA test for prostate cancer. But these tests do not specifically indicate cancer. Surgical biopsy is the only way to confirm cancer, for either prostate or ovarian cancers.

This is my story with partner. It’s utterly sickening to go through this. It seems to always strike the best of us, too. God Bless You, Debi Adomeit

The fact that doctors just guess is sad. Blood test and scans don't always show. If they do it's already advanced. Ultrasounds will find it
