The construction industry is one of the biggest polluters in the world, consuming half of the planet’s natural resources, 40 percent of its energy and 16 percent of its water, as well as generating greenhouse gas emissions and waste. But here in France, the company Bat'Ipac has found an alternative: building with recycled cardboard instead of concrete. FRANCE 24's Alexandra Renard and Aurore Cloé Dupuis report.

I’m very confused by this video, because almost all the material that’s visible on the house isn’t cardboard.

I've been a carpenter for almost 40 years. Wood/cardboard is never going to last like masonry. It's not, people will forget about maintenance, not notice a water leak, or insect damage, etc. Personally, I don't think it's very sustainable if it's going to need to be replaced every 50-75 years.

Yes, I'd live in a "cardboard house" on a wooden framework.

I don't think this kind of house will work practically because Cardboard is highly flammable one spark and the whole house burns to the ground. But fire resistant coating can also work.

Wow, this looks really great. Doesn’t seem like there’re any problems with using this method yet, and it seems like they really tried to see if there were any. I think I’d go for this if given the chance.

Use permanent design features, like plaster or brick, when possible.

One little pinhole or broken seam will turn that cardboard into a mold farm. And there is already cellulose insulation that is essentially the same thing and doesn’t require any new construction techniques or materials. Why not just use that?

These houses will burn so easily, not even mention strong winds of tornados.

So, cardboard house or cardboard-insulated house?

Wood and cardboard, isn't that how most homes were built in California a la American style 😂

Definitely not in the State of California. No insurance company will offer a policy or insure the dwelling.
