Been writing and recording with a truly international band (Estonia, Finland, Germany and Canada). I never met the guys in person and only had contact with them via social media. We've been sharing files since 2012 and we released 2 full lenght albums already. We're working on a third one as I type. The wonders of technology!

Haha it's cool to hear a full song of that infamous riff you always play in demos

This is great. I actually recorded a split album with a friend I met online basically sending the tracks between us and talking through discord. We are arranging to create a band now and hopefully start rehearsing together in the summer :)

Watching from Pittsburgh as per normal. My brother from another mother ( drummer ) and I have been using BandLab to work together for about the last 6 - 10 months. Prior to that we were playing together in person in my basement for several years. We had to change our procedures when kids and wives and all the normal life shit presented itself. 😉 Anyway, great tune and thank you for turning me on to Eric’s channel!!!

My writing process usually goes as such: Someone has a riff or beat, we record us jamming it, and i manipulate the recording until we have a single verse and chorus to work from.
I've been really loving working on my triangle Big Muff. Haven't finished the build yet, but it'll sound awesome when it's done

Hey Jason. Great tune. I love the cab sims you are using! gonna have to check them out. I'm from the UK on the south coast near Bournemouth. I record at home on my computer. I actually started off using free software. I used a program called Octamed to program drums and synths and imported that into another free program called Audacity, then I used a Boss Metal Zone pedal straight into my soundblaster 128 sound card!. It sounded awful, but the thing I learned from that experience was that if you dont actually put in the time to sit down and write stuff, you will never get around to it, and even though a lot of it sounded really amatuer, the ideas were good enough to inspire me to carry on making songs. Also, put drums to riffs and not the other way around. I find writing to drums is harder to keep it original sounding.
These days I have various instrument plugins, a Laney Ironheart Studio IRT-15 amp going into a 4 channel Behringer UMD404HD interface, a few pedals, a copy of Reaper and still no-one to record with, so I tend to write songs on my own for my one man Orchestral Doom project called "Unhallowed Remains".

My friends and i share a google drive folder where we share/store our riffs and build on the others riffs. I've also been using the excalibur fuzz pedal from deiode

I dig that song, the Pog effect is tight!
I just got the Life Pedal v2 yesterday. I'll be jamming that until the cows come home! It's amazing!
Cheers from Seattle!

Thanks, gents. Some of us -- certainly yours truly -- can get too concerned with how the sausage is made to enjoy the meal. Very much enjoy hearing the end results. It's why we're all endlessly fiddling with this stuff.

Jason is the Mr Rogers of Doom. Always putting out educational, encouraging, and motivational content.

Good jam, sounds huge for a direct pedalboard. Technology is evolving to where a half stack isn't completely necessary for a decent sound anymore.

Yes! This is it! Thank you for making the video. I had this setup in my mind and always wondered how it works. With the gear we have today you don't need a half stack, professional studio mics and audio treatment to record a song. Hell, you don't even need a band in the same place as you, you can do it via internet. I am so grateful to live in this time.

Hello from Grand Rapids, MI. Really dig this song. Eric changing between chords and the atmospheric stuff really brings the song to life. I currently just send small ships of songs to friends and see if they want to get together and make some noise. Nothing too serious. I have a 4 channel interface and some recording equipment, so my house is always where we seem to get together. Lately, my go to pedal has been a Carcosa fuzz or a Fuzzrite clone that I built.

Since i moved to another town, my writing process has changed a lot. My band used to jam new riffs or beats untill we had a cool instrumental that we liked, then we would write lyrics for it and make a song.

Nowadays usually we send each other riffs and ideas through whatsapp and what not, then make a demo and we practice alone listening to the demo so we know what we want to change when we go to rehearsal and recording. Since we like to record live, we usually rehearse the new songs a couple of times before recording.

My favorite pedal lately is a BAT ritual fuzz i got recently, that thing is a monster!

You have no idea how much on point your video is. It exactly is what I needed to watch. I want to start composing again, but I have difficulties finding a good setup to play easily at night without waking up my kids or the neighbours. I will definitely check out the Cabzeus. Thanks a lot.
By the way, the song is definitely awesome. There is a good alchemy here.

Regarding the writing process, usually I have riffs and structure ideas that come to me when I am walking outside on my own and I have time to be alone and enjoy the moment. I then go back home, try them on bass or guitar, and start songs that way.

I usually come up with two or three heavy riffs that sound good together, record them, then my vocalist will copy/paste them to use as building blocks for writing lyrics and send it back.

Next we play it at band practice and just repeat it until the other 2 guys (bass and drums) figure out how they want to fit into the mix.
