Note: Watch fullscreen in at least 720p for clearer view of the differences.

This is just a quick demonstration of how the new scanlines in MAME .0142u4 can make a dramatic difference in the way a game looks. In Mortal Kombat II for instance, the animated background seems to be much more recognizable when HLSL is enabled. This new feature in Mame has the possibility to make original CRT arcade monitors obsolete due to its impressive functionality.

The one on the right is the HLSL one. It does not just put scanlines into the pic (though you cannot see them in the video) it also makes the picture curve in at the edges etc. to give the impression of using a real arcade monitor. This effect, coupled with scanlines, looks really good on LCD monitors.

You can see them in the video at 720p, 1080p, and 1600p (original). Push one of those buttons and full screen it. If you still cannot see the scanlines, it might be time to invest in glasses.

@polo64wave If HLSL means a new scanline effect in Mame, then that would mean lines across the screen. Since the video on the left side has no scanlines, you would be safe to assume that HLSL is the one on the right.

It looks like in recent renditions of his Wiki, he has taken out the HLSL settings part of his Wiki page. However, there is this:

Can you reupload the "hlsl.zip" file? The first link it's broken.
