Continuing with the Language of Creation series we'll touch on chapter 13 through 16. This was originally three videos but they were short and all ran together so I put them into one.

Coming over from podcast land to say this is amazing! Particularly you brining in CS Lewis.

When Pageau describes the way that the Lord created the earth, it puts me in mind of the discussion of God's body on the Lord of Spirits podcast, which does an excellent job of describing an ancient conception of body. It is well worth a listen.

I think "half gnosticism" is right because as you said, Bret is a thorough-going materialist with no spiritual realm to escape to. His gnosticism seeks to overthrow the evil demiurge, not escape it.

Answers and Misgivings chapter from CS Lewis Miracles talks about how language or religion becomes invisible until it has receded. Do you think that is what is making much more of the Bible’s deeper patterns or symbols to become more obvious?

I love love love the new format - watching you think is in some ways more exciting than watching your prepared slides. Having said that, I also got a lot out of the truncated comments with slides at the end of this video. Thank you!

Paul VanderKlay, please consider covering Tammy's recent interview on the utube channel called "Theories of Everything with Curt Jaimungal". It's absolutely fantastic! I'm sure you'll love that conversation.

Dang it .. was triggered again. I was hoping Paul would not bring up God #1 and God #2 again but he waited until the end. Oh well.

As a engineer, I love the schematic type drawings and diagrams in Pageau's book. The diagrams and well written text helps me heal from my obsessive materialism. Yet, I'm growing fond of the fact that God uses the material world to communicate to us. How did the Hebrew engineers build things without schematics and drawings back in the day? Did they not have nerds among them or was that the Egyptians? I would have been exiled from the community .. " ...but Moses, where are the the as-built drawings? Moses - Be gone from us you nerd ..." (constructions folks will get that).
Thanks Paul for taking time to analyze this book. It's one of may favorites. I had to read it three times just to figure out what "symbolic" verses "metaphor" really means. Iron sharpens iron (metaphor right?)

I am not sure what to make of this, honestly, going down to go up and make something else is an interesting paradigm to ponder to be sure. I see some elements of what John Vervaeke refers to as the transjective here, but it is a bit more involved than what I think he is pointing at (or I'm just not following his construction - quite possible). Perhaps I need to get this book and try reading it for myself, it seems to have a complexity which defies my current understanding.

An invisible principality being manifested into an embodied particular is an important pattern that plays out. Being fated has been what the Bible has been arguing against forever.. From astrology, cast systems, archetypes, personality profiles or even assassin robot biological programming. If only we had an example to transcend our desires that also provided a group identity.

I'm curious, other than Jonathan's brother, who is the author? There's nothing on the internet about him. I've seen "symbolic" interpretations of the biblical literature before in Charismania (want a wild one, look up William Branham's "serpent seed theory"). I get this may be new and fun to those who grew up with only the historical-grammatical, but it isn't when you get 100 people in a room who are discussing the symbolism with no consideration for the communicative intentions of the author and then they have to agree on what something means in order to be a functional Christian community.( "Well I think it means this!" says each of the 100 people)

The symbolic is great if that is the communicative intention of the author. In that case, we effort to see the intended meaning behind the author's symbol. If not the Biblical text becomes a Rorschach test. I'm not saying MP is doing all of this. There is an effort to step into the ancient world of Genesis, but without serious training in Hebrew or referencing Hebraic scholars, etc. with proper citation I would be doubtful of even simple interpretive moves like well "manna means..."

Haha, "one eyed imagination", that's Dr. Brett. "We must take control from the genes, or we're doomed!" We must repent and trust in the Saviour or in Lewis' words, “If you live for the next world, you get this one in the deal; but if you live only for this world, you lose them both.”

I think there's a good deal of presumption beyond what can reasonably be conjectured in most modern ideas of redactional history.

Perhaps ‘house’ refers not only to ‘home’ but also to lineage, as in the house of Saul or the house of David. Oh, and this house of our body is clothed in flesh. Probably also every time scripture speaks of ‘habitation’. I also see a connection with Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Wisdom comes from the Father above. The Holy Spirit (understanding) dwells within each believer teaching us of Christ and making known His glory and Christ the Son (all knowledge) is the Union of heaven and earth. But maybe Matthieu lays all this out in a later chapter. I’m always a little bit late to the game. Of course, I realize that each member of the Godhead is complete and not divided, and yet each may manifest the creation in a unique way, dividing the complexity to help us finite creatures along. Oh, and also, wisdom is the seed of the Big Bang seeding all energy and information into the universe, understanding is the expansion that takes place to spread out the universe and knowledge is the particulars, the elements, the matter that actually composes the universe (planets, stars, galaxies). The earth is filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord. Ok. Now I’m rambling. Take the wheat and blow away the chaff.
