Sometimes just "agreeing" with people is the best way to get them to shut up

👌🏼😂👏 This was me all through middle and High school. I loved makeup back when it wasn't even all the rage yet and girls hated on me for it and thought I cared. 👀 I didn't I wore what I wanted, did my makeup and hair and loved it. ❤

💥 You’re setting the standard for transparent fashion! Every look is pure perfection.

I don't wear make up myself but I love seeing them on other people! Especially if they're passionate for it, the creative is dazzling!

Honestly, someone told me this. They said my make up made me look like a freak and started calling me a “vampire gremlin.” Today, they wear more make up than me and she’s the annoyingest girl in the school. There are just rude people out there and won’t change for no reason, but stay strong y’all!!

It’s not that girls shouldn’t wear makeup, it’s that girls shouldn’t feel the need to have to wear make up.

Edit: People are taking this comment the complete wrong way, I was not saying that girls shouldn’t wear makeup, what I was saying was that girls shouldn’t feel that they have to wear makeup to be beautiful. You are beautiful with and without makeup, do what makes you happy and be yourself. And remember to treat people with respect and kindness, always.

Being yourself means dressing and presenting yourself in a way you feel fits who you are. I’m not all crunch granola. Nor am I the perky small town natural blonde who wears leggings and a neutral t shirt even on date night, wants a house in the suburbs, and thinks trying new or more ‘wild’ things is scary. But that is what I look like though if I don’t do my make up, color my hair, and stick to simple clothing. These are some of the ways people perceived me to be when I bought into the whole ‘natural and casual is being authentic’ stuff in my early teens, and that’s honestly how I see my physical self when k don’t dress for my tastes. I was never comfortable with how I looked. Not because I thought any of it was inherently bad but because it just didn’t fit me. I started also trying to suppress things like my music tastes, values, ideas, hobbies… anything that didn’t fit in with what the people my look attracted expected from me, and people just don’t talk about the impact that can have on self esteem. You do start finding features to hate if it goes on long enough. I would think I needed to be prettier to like how I look one day, but the problem wasn’t the canvas. It was that it didn’t match the person decorating it. I started feeling more confident through time as I started worrying more about whether or not I looked like me vs whether or not I fit the beauty standards I didn’t even care about. Being yourself looks different for everyone because we are not carbon copies. It would actually be super boring if we all looked the same and fell into the pressure to try and be the same. I am glad that there are more options for self expression now, even if we see tons of people intentionally trying to fit into boxes that just don’t fit who they are because they think that will make them more likable, more popular, or more appealing to men. You want friends and lovers who like the real you. Otherwise it’s going to be a shitty ride. Dressing authentically is a great way to draw in people whom are compatible as friends and possibly as partners. Be yourself, even if that means being extra. It’s ok to be extra. We get so many reminders that it’s ok not to be extra that it feels like not keeping everything simple and minimalistic is somehow a bad thing. But it’s not, if it’s who you are. Bold people with bold looks and personalities are awesome, and if wearing make up that you can see helps you express your big, beautiful personality, go for it.
