Baofeng DM-1701

Got the 1702, cheap as chips and works well, no complaints here, a great rig for newer hams.

The audio on my 1701 on DMR isn’t great, some stations come through over-modulated with pops and static sounds. I installed OpenGD77 firmware but the AGC setting doesn’t solve it. Also in certain positions, the two control knobs bind on each other. It could be that QC isn’t great as experiences appear mixed. 73.

What year was this review done. I have this radio, and the clip is still clunky, but the rest of the radio feels solid. Maybe they have done some software or firmware improvement since this video.

Ive had no issues with this radio. I have the Tierr 2 with updated firmware. Solid radio iMO.

Looks like your 1701 has an issue with the display. A wire could have come loose.

Do I still need a HAM radio license even if I program in the FRS channel in the radio and only use the radio as an FRS radio?

Will definitely stay away from this one, I've been pleased with what I guess is it's successor, the DM-1801. Not perfect, less isues than this one though.

I disagree, for me its a great radio for $99us.... much better than radioddity gd-77 what I can see in the video is that you probably have a older firmware, try new firmware.... I dont have any malfunctions
