I think Rileys emotions are mixed genders because she gets traits from both her father and mother. Her mothers leading emotion is saddness/empathy so Riley gets this from her and her Dads leading emotion is Anger/protectivness so she gets this from him. It is also a movie for everyone so instead of having all female characters (which might drive away some of the male audience) they included both.
