Engineers put the rover through thousands of hours of testing. They did drop tests; pull tests; drive tests; load tests, and many other tests to get Curiosity ready for launch.
The Autonomous period of this mission is going to be sick, In FRC i thought that just doing something for 15 seconds was crazy, but reentering the atmosphere in autonomous and having it do so many things during that phase is gonna be insane

Imagine how far space exploration would be at the moment if the U.S dedicated as much money as they do on wars/weapons/military. This gem of a project cost 2.5 billion; That's about as much as the U.S. is spending a year on ammunition and fuel in the dumb Iraq/Afghan wars.

@voodoo2110 The US space agency will get its first opportunity to launch the robot - also known as the Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) - at 10:02 local time (15:02 GMT) on Saturday.

It is slower than a turtle in know why because if it goes to fast it will probably miss important details

And its also slower than a turtle because sand dust and dirt will get blown in by the wind like ur in a car stick ur head out the window and wind is in ur face
