3 Campfire Desserts ⬇️ SCRUMDIDDLYUMPTIOUS RECIPES BELOW ⬇️ There's nothing cozier than sitting around a campfire on a warm summer's night. After telling a few ghost stories and gazing up at the stars, you're bound to get a bit hungry, but roasting marshmallows and making s'mores gets boring when you've been doing it all summer long. These 3 recipes for easy, delicious campfire desserts will transform your summer nights! All 3 desserts are made using a simple homemade buttermilk dough and can be roasted over the campfire, just like marshmallows. Now all we need are some original ghost stories!

Buttermilk Dough

You'll Need:

- 1 package dry yeast (approx. ¼ oz) + 2 tbsp sugar +  ⅓ cup warm water
- 6 cups flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1¾ sticks butter, chilled
- 1¼ cups buttermilk
- 2 tbsp sugar

Here's How:

To make the buttermilk dough, stir together the dry yeast, sugar, and warm water. Let the mixture sit for 10 minutes until a creamy foam starts to form on its surface. Stir together the flour, salt, and sugar, then add in the yeast mixture. Knead the buttermilk into the flour mixture by hand, then add in the cold butter and continue to knead until a smooth dough forms. Cover the buttermilk dough and let it rise in a warm place for at least 30 minutes.

1. Stuffed Oranges

You'll Need:

- 4 oranges
- 1 lb buttermilk dough
- 1 tbsp orange marmalade
- ¼ cup chopped pecans
- orange marmalade for the garnish

Here's How:

Get your campfire ready, then cut the tops off of the 4 oranges, hollow out the insides, and set the fruit aside for later. Roll out the buttermilk dough and cut it into 4 even strips. Spread a layer of orange marmalade over the buttermilk dough and sprinkle chopped pecans on top. Roll up the strips of buttermilk dough, insert 1 roll into each hollowed-out orange, and place the tops back on the oranges. Pour some water into a cast iron pot and place the stuffed oranges inside. Close the lid and hang the pot over the open fire for 30 minutes. Puree the fruit of the oranges you set aside earlier, and garnish the stuffed oranges with the orange puree or orange marmalade.

2. Cinnamon Sugar Twists

You'll Need:

- 1 lb buttermilk dough
- ¼ cup sugar
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- icing for the garnish
- caramel sauce to serve
- clean branch from the campsite

Here's How:

Roll the buttermilk dough out into a long, thin rectangle and stir together the cinnamon and sugar. Brush a small amount of water over the dough and sprinkle the cinnamon sugar on top. Cut the dough into long, even strips. Roll the strips of cinnamon sugar dough into thick rolls and wrap the rolled up pieces of cinnamon sugar dough around a clean branch you find around the yard or campsite. Cook the cinnamon sugar twists over the campfire until golden brown. Carefully remove the twists from the stick and drizzle icing on top. We recommend serving these cinnamon sugar twists with caramel sauce for dipping!

3. Buttermilk Ice Cream Bowl

You'll Need:

- 12 oz buttermilk dough
- vanilla ice cream
- strawberry pie filling
- mint
- clean tin can
- tongs

Here's How:

Light up the campfire, remove the labels from the tin can, and clean the can thoroughly. Roll out the buttermilk dough and flip a bowl that's about 6 inches in diameter over onto the dough. Trace the bowl with a knife and cut out several circular pieces of dough using this technique. Place the clean tin can on a pair of thongs and preheat it over the campfire. Place 1 circular piece of dough over the bottom of the warmed can and cook the dough over the campfire until golden brown. Let the buttermilk bowl cool slightly, remove it from the tin can, and scoop some vanilla ice cream and strawberry pie filling into it. Garnish with fresh mint leaves.

Using a lidded dutch oven with a brick inside at the bottom to set the pan or pot to back on is the easiest way to make a campfire oven for baking. The brick keeps the pan off the direct heat on the bottom of the dutch oven

Ice cream on a camping trip? You've got 20 minutes from the grocery store freezer before its soup. That's barely time to the parking lot.... nevermind a camp site.

You can also use Bisquik and shape it around the last 4-5” of a clean stick 1/2 - 1” thick. Close the end over the stick, cook over a fire til baked and browned. Slide whole thing off the stick and fill center as desired - butter, cinnamon/sugar, fruit butters or jams etc. The Bisquik mix travels really well and cooks up easily.

The fact that they cook over the flames and not the coals make me irrationally angry.
