Показать описание
A very rare car to be found in Australia is the "Borgward Isabella" coupe built by Carl F. W. Borgward GmbH in Bremen, Germany between 1954 & 1962. The car was originally planned as the Borgward Hansa-1500 but the name was changed to "Isabella", some cars did feature Hansa branding through to 1957. In 1955 a wagon and cabriolet were also produced.
Some 11,150 Isabella's were produced in 1954 and they proved popular although some minor mechanical issues had to be addressed. The Isabella was one of the first cars to feature a cigarette lighter and a clock. At the time, the car sold for Deutch Marks 7,265.
Powered by a four cylinder 1,493cc engine giving 60bhp linked to a hydraulic clutch to a four speed fully syncromesh gear box. Maximum speed was 130KMh with fuel consumption rated at 8.4 litres per 100Kms travelled. Independent coil suspension with swing axles at the rear.
From 1957 the original Isbaella 60bhp engine was upgraded to a 75bhp which featured as standard in the cabriolet Isbaella TS model made in 1955 onwards. The Isabella was exported to several countries, including Australia, New Zealand and Malaya.
Only available as a two door coupe and no rear passenger seating the car was constructed without a separate chassis, applying the "monocoque" technique. The engine inlet manifold was fitted inside the engine and the tail shaft was fully enclosed.
Borgward went into liquidation in 1961, however production did not cease until 1962 with 202,862 Isabella's made in Germany. Ironically a brief survival ensued with the production line being sold and shipped to Mexico where the "Big Six" P100 was made. In Argentina the Isabella was made between 1960 & 1963 by Dinborg, a local subsidiary of Borgward. A total of 999 Isabella's were made in Buenos Aires.
