Music Producers: Watch this BEFORE Buying Any Plugins

One thing I see a lot in the producer community, especially with beginners, is thinking that if they purchase a bunch of plugins, it's somehow going to make them better at music production. This video explores some of the things to consider before going out and buying a bunch of plugins hoping it will help you get better at production.

The biggest point I want to get across in this video, is that if you're struggling with music production and you don't really know how to use certain stock plugins in your DAW (like an EQ for example), don't think that buying an amazing EQ like Fabfilters Pro Q 3 is going to solve all your problems. Learn how to actually use your stock EQ first, and learn how to properly EQ in various situations. This will most likely take a lot of trial and error and will probably take a long time. There are definitely a lot of skills to master within music production, and it's not something you just get good at overnight.

If you do decide there's a plugin you want to purchase, I recommend using plugin boutique. They offer a points reward system which will give you various perks, including getting $ off future purchases. They also offer various plugins for free with every purchase. This changes each month, and personally I've ended up with some pretty cool plugins from this. I'm going to leave an affiliate link to their website below. If you want to use that link it helps support this channel by giving me a small commission on anything you decide to purchase.

This really mainly effects beginners. Once your in it for a min your able to read thru the bs vsts. While your learning just stick to your daw and learn it thoroughly and just focus on training your ears to hear what your stock plugins are even doing to sounds

I recently deleted my plugin folder which had nearly 100 3rd party plugins. I then went through and decided what plugins I actually needed and use, I now have less than 20 I use regularly and have started using stock plugins a lot more. I use Studio One and the stock plugins are actually a lot better than I thought they would be, I wish I had done this years ago as it would have saved me a lot of money.

Arturia released Tape Mello-fi for free last year, and it's been a absolute go-to for me. I have another similar emulator, and hell, I can't even remember the name of it now. Mello-fi is just that good.

Oh, and just so you know (for analytical purposes or whatever), I came to this video from your email. lol

I'm already subbed, but no notif. Cheers!

I love SketchCassette2, Shapeshifter and Digitalis for lofi and saturation stuff. Amazing plugins and not really expensive. All by the same company called Aberrant DSP. And I love Unfiltered Audio stuff. Especially Byome which is a multi effect plugin and what I love about it is that you can modulate everything and anything. And the effects are real nice. But that's personal. Dent 2 is also very cool for distortion and bit crushing. I do still use a lot of FL Studio stock plugins. I really like Parametric eq2 for instance

Disclosure said many times that their first album was fully made with stock Logic plugins only, including their massive hit "Latch"

I always struggle with intros. Usually jumping right into the drop. Would greatly appreciate a video based on intros!

hi David, the best all round free synth is vital, its so good that i bought the extra wavetables and text to speech possibility
even the free version can do everything with only the exeption of TTS, also love supermodal from polyverse, also great for sound design

Personally I dont think you need to buy plugins to get a professional sound. You need practice, and to train your ears to know why something does or doesnt sound like the pros, that being said there are some pretty good tools that you can get (both paid and free) that can help speed up the process and help you get your ideas down before you lose them in the technical aspects of trying to sound "professional" whatever that even means😅😅😅

This video is 4:47 long, the question at hand is less than 10 seconds long. Answer is: Get the base hardware and software, plugins is not needed at all. Creative souls needs just the foundation.
