That heavier cab must be killing your mpg! I have a 2007 access cab 4x4 base, been my daily driver for three years, also 4.0 6MT. I get about 18-20 mpg. I agree about getting the options you want, I have manual everything, no sliding rear window, no foglights, but they are plug and play on these, all prewired. Only complaint is the clutch is getting weak but that's pretty standard and I still can daily drive it. Eventually I'll add some options and a small suspension lift, meatier tires, and bedline paint the thing.

Seeing this after owning a 05 double cab 4x4 v6 auto I consistently get 19-22mpg mostly in town driving... and I speed everywhere lol

I have a 2013 TRD Sport Double Cab 4x4 Automatic Trans. My truck gets about 17mpg and 22mpg on the interstate/hwy..

I just towed a 5000 + Lbs Trailer to Arizona from the bay area in California i have the 2013 Off Road auto trans. and its better then any manual i have ever had, , i had no problem at all it is a very strong truck, its rated for 6500 Lbs, , it was amazing how well it drove and pulled that Trailer through California and the Tehachapi mountains in to Arizona, , Not sure why some of you guys thank the manual Tran's can stand up to a automatic transmission in the Tacoma's, , No wonder your having trouble pulling your boat, , its not the motor its you transmission, , Not sure what your truck is rated for since its a SR5..

Man $12, 800 is a good price, I found my 2011 6speed manual TRD off road 4x4 access cab for $18, 400 private party. My truck only had 47k miles on it when I bought it but they certainly hold their value. I like the 6 speed. The clutch does catch kinda high for my liking, I wish it was a bit lower on the pedal. The shifter throw was a bit long too, I’d hit my knee in reverse but after I put the URD short throw shifter on it makes the shifting experience feel more crisp and no longer hits my knee. It did make it require a lot of muscle to get into reverse though, but it’s a good thing. Prevents you from accidentally going to reverse when aiming for 1st

I believe the best thing you can do for these trucks is upgrade the rear leaf springs or get some helper spring/air springs. The payload is severely lacking and if you're towing and have weight in the bed forgot about it.

Lol about towing… I remember towing 4900LBS with my dads 2002 Tacoma V6, max tow 5K… I remember 5500RPMS in 2nd gear because the trans wouldn’t downshift LOL. It was from detroit Mi all the way to Mackinac bridge. 4 or 5 gas stops never again did we tow with that 😂

I’m close to pulling the trigger on a gen 2 Tacoma. Yeah I know they freaking cost a bunch of money for High mileage, but in my research, they are worth it. Enjoyed your review!

I have a 2017 V6 2 wheel drive. I get 25-27 mpg on the freeway and 20-23 in the city right now that there hasn't been that much traffic since the covid began. I'm still trying to get used to the seating position. It's definitely different from any other car I've driven.
