Bring up the 9th Symphony and everyone always jumps to the Ode to Joy. Yes, it's amazing, but this movement is the one that I find myself listening to over and over again. Non-stop driving energy. Don't get me wrong, I love the Ode to Joy, too. But, this one, to me, is an underappreciated masterpiece.

It is only a guess, but I think Beethoven is in heaven with a big grin on his face. I have heard this movement performed by many orchestras and conductors over the decades, but I have an idea that this one will be the one by which all others will be measured. This is superbly performed at a tempo that is breath-taking. My congratulations to all involved. I will be tracking down the recording and will be making a purchase.

I don't want to seem pretentious or sentimental or to quick to leap to superlatives but in this beethoven seemed to have glimpsed something godly or antigodly. I have loved many pieces of music but this just sets my brain on fire with all that is dazzling, triumphant, stellar, victorious.
