Krist became a different guy overnight. He lost his best friend. He was so silly and fun and goofy then Kurt died and his light went out.

I got into Nirvana a year almost after his unalivening (idk about that last word…still mulling on that one).

I kinda feel blessed that i posthumously got into nirvana. Bc if I was a nirvana fan while he was alive.

Idk how I would have dealt with his death. Many kids did the same. Every song on the radio sounded like nirvana after nirvana hit the scene.

All I know people still revere Nirvana as a great Rock band. The only thing that’s missing is how Nirvana stood up for positive changes in society. They were for women’s rights, they supported the lgbtq community and the whole switch from 80’s glam rock wasn’t a stylist musical choice. It was a cultural one, the sex drugs and RocknRoll mentality was being changed and challenged by nirvana. Groupies and all that nirvana made fun of it and ridiculed other rockstars who used fame and fortune to disrespect women and justify their Neanderthal behavior….thats what nirvana was to me.

The movie the doors made by Oliver stone was released in movie theaters months before Nirvana’s Nevermind…and it flopped.

That was not a coincidence. Nirvana was being open minded, progressive and tried to be advocates for change (the did benefits for rape victims in Bosnia), they supported they gay friends publicly.

Nirvana could have easily phoned it in. Once they hit it big, disappear or ignore societies mindset and issues that prior generations just ignored and passed down to the next generation. Nirvana did not do that.

One of the reason Kurt Cobain didn’t like the hippy generation is they did nothing with the power that had already gained when there were protesting the Vietnam war. When the Charles Manson murders occurred it ostracized hippies and their movements of peace long and understanding. Free love and the sexual revolution became a way to justify abuse amongst her drug culture.

But nirvana along with the progressive movement of other Seattle bands in that area including Portland. That’s pushed for social change. Kurt could have easily been Axel Rose’s friend. But Axel was a benefactor of the type of world that Kurt was up against. That’s what Kurt would have loved his legacy to be.

And in a way they succeeded by opening doors to other future bands and artists like Rage Against the machine. But his death allowed other bands like Limp Bizkit and Kid rock to crap on the progress rock had made. Woodstock 99 is the evidence of that. The county and youth were going one way and good ole Fred Durst and co brought it all back to the Neanderthal mentality that’s still evident today.
