Why is there a shortage of pharmacists?

Customers have noticed longer waits at pharmacies across the country.

Closing for lunch bc of a shortage? That’s NOT it. Pharmacists NEVER get to eat during our 12-14 hour shifts! We ARE NOT ROBOTS! Pharmacy is NOT FAST FOOD!!! This customer is the perfect example of WHY working in pharmacy is so difficult. She needs to learn some manners! Would you talk to your Doctor like that? Guess what? We Pharmacists HAVE DOCTORAL DEGREES! Honestly, she needs go shut up!

I used to work in pharmacy. The real reason for the shortage is the greedy of the insurances and big pharmacy providers.

I’m a hospital pharmacist in NYC. The pharmacists we hire are coming from the retail sector (cvs, rite-aid, etc). They are overworked and very burned out. The chain pharmacies are making them work to death. Many female pharmacists had miscarriages due to overwhelming stress

There's no shortage of pharmacists, it's techs willing to work with these ego-maniacs who'd rather be district managers. They'd rather work at corporate offices than the stores, most stores don't want to make things easier for fear of joining the rest of the employees as easily replaceable.

we went thru a period of immense saturation and wage decrease. The pay is extremely lagging compared to MD/Dentists.

I thought Pharmacy was oversaturated, and Pharmacist graduates were having a difficult time finding work in the US?

Don't major in pharmacy, the degree program is written with megacorporate interests in mine. They make you work for free full time for 10 months in the last year. There's tons of students in the pipeline, poor devils, while major chains close stores because of lack of competition. Customers and patients don't get good service anymore because they don't have other options.
