Purest BS. All depends on where you define the base to be. The only sensible measure is height above sea level.

We’re now talking about technicalities not how we generally view what’s the tallest or not. The correct answer is mount Kea from base to height. But the highest peak rests on Mount Everest.

From base to peak, even mount Kilimanjaro is slightly taller. But nobody generally considers anything below sea level which is fair.

That said, a mountain's height is measured by what is on above and not what is under. So Mt. Everest is the tallest. FULL STOP.

Everest is still taller because 1. technically Mauna kea is a island so it doesn't count. 2. your counting from below the sea level so you should count everest from below the sea level and its not fair. so Mt. Everest is still taller
