It is the last day for league stage fixtures from Group A and in the first game of the double-header an upbeat Pakistan Women side will take on a struggling United Arab Emirates Women team at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium Dambulla on Tuesday (July 23). A win for Pakistan will secure them a place in the semi-finals along with India.

However a defeat here would make the next game between India Women and Nepal Women interesting. Pakistan can still make it to the knockouts even if they lose to UAE Women but then they would have to hope that India win their last game against Nepal or doesn't lose by a big margin. Pakistan did themselves a favour by thrashing Nepal by nine wickets in their previous game. They chased down the target with 8.1 overs to spare boosting their net run-rate significantly.

They are currently in second place with a win and defeat from two matches. Nepal also have had a similar campaign so far but they are in third place because of an inferior net run-rate. UAE Women on the other hand and are the bottom of the points table with two defeats from two games. In their last game after opting to bowl first Pakistan Women restricted Nepal Women for 106/8 from 20 overs. Sadia Iqbal was the pick of the bowlers with 2/19 from her four overs.

Fatima Sana was the only other bowler who managed to pick up a wicket and she finished with figures of 1/24 from her quota of four overs. Three Nepal batters were run out as they posted a platry total of 106 on the board after facing 20 overs. In response Pakistan openers Gul Feroza and Muneeba Ali added 105 runs for the opening wicket.

Feroza was dismissed for 57 in the 12th over but with just 4 runs left for the win Muneeba Ali hit a boundary to seal the win for her side. On the other hand UAE Women are coming off a defeat against the defending champions India Women. After opting to bowl first against the title holders UAE bowlers conceded the first 200-plus total of the ongoing tournament. Shafali Verma made 37 but the top order struggled and India were 52 for three at one stage.

However captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues steadied the ship with a partnership of 54 for the fourth wicket. Rodrigues perished for 14 but Harmanpreet carried on and made 66 runs off 47 balls. Wicketkeeper batter Richa Ghosh played a sparkling knock of 64 off just 29 balls to lift India's total to 201/5 from 20 overs.

Kavisha Egodage was the star with the ball finishing with figures of 2/36 from her four overs. Heena Hotchandani and Samaira Dharnidharka picked up one wicket each. In response UAE Women lost two wickets inside powerplay and were 24/2 at one stage. The third wicket fell in the 8th over and the score was just 36.

Skipper Esha Rohit Oza and Kavisha Egodage added 40 off 30 balls for the fourth wicket before the former lost her wicket for 38. Egodage remained unbeaten on 40 but in the end it was just too much to do for the young UAE batters and they fell short by 78 runs in the end finishing at 123/7 from their 20 overs. Can UAE Women upset Pakistan Women to register their first win of the tournament?
