Hey everyone! The reverse serve is one that many players want to learn and add to their game, when executed correctly you can create deadly amounts of spin and it can be very hard to return. Many professional players such as Timo Boll and Fan Zhendong use this serve to devastating effect, so we've created this step by step guide so you can master it too!

I never knew there was a difference in grip between the pendulum and the reverse pendulum serve. Changing my grip and using the other tips of this video really helped. I've been practicing this serve for months but I just couldn't master it, but now with this change it grip I have a lot more control over my serve and I can get a lot more spin. Thanks for the video!

This by far the best explanation of how to do this serve correctly. 👍👍

Finally a good tutorial on this serve ever on internet. Not even paid coaching lessons online have this level of good explanation. Nice work right there! I'll start learning this serve, since everyone knows and return easily all of the ones I already have.

I found one issue with this technique that prevented me from mastering this serve for a long time. My issue was the handle was brushing against my wrist preventing a clean motion for generating a the spin from wrist. Looked at a Eli Baraty video where he suggests some techniques but did not work well for me. My solution was to grip the racket lower towards the bottom of the handle. Seems to work well as the bottom of the handle is no longer in way of wrist snap

Nice tutorial. Already knew most of it, maybe appart from the grip change, but I think I've been doing it subconciously lol.
Anyhow, it's also a nice serve to mix up a bit more. Like fast long top/side spin serves (as with pendulum, but opposite sidespin).
Or brush it 'close to' purely sideways/horizontally under the ball where the spin will be pretty dead on normal recieves.
or alternatively just do a no-spin serve that looks like 'heavy underspin' (no-spin serves that looks like underspin kicks ass)
You can also make a decent short/low "top spin" serve where you contact the ball the oposite way compared to the underspin version, as in, "away from the table under the ball" but still enough 'upward' for the ball to move forward and over the net. Which is actually easier with the reverse than the normal pendulum. At least deceptive wise.
If your opponent is not observant (or high level) they will try cut it normally and it will jump upwards. :)
Just my own variants of this serve, I'd be delighted to hear more.

Great practical guide, only thing I would add is to point out the strategic value of the reverse pendulum is as a mix up. A big element to work on is making your start position identical to a normal pendulum and to execute the movement as quickly and late as possible.

This is the hardest serve for me. So many different ways to do it, but I think you need to pick the way best for you body ability. I'm going to try this technique now.

I’ve been getting back into ping pong a lot lately. I’ve played a lot back in high school. I really love it, lots of fun. So much skill, strategy involved here, reminds me of chess. 🙂 I really enjoy having a bunch of various serves so your opponent doesn’t get used to the serve when you’re serving so many different ones. This serve looks do able. I’ll work hard and add this one to my Repertoire. 😆 Great video! 👍🏽👍🏽

Could you do a tomohawk tutorial next?

A regular, bread and butter pendulum serve tutorial would be incredibly helpful. A lot of the "tutorials" I've run into lack the clarity of the one I saw here today.

Thanks for the content
