Loved that the whole video as dedicated to the calves Josh. They are the start of the process of rearing and you have the perfect attitude and demeanor in how you were handling them. Like most youngsters on farms, this was one of my first jobs and it was ingrained into me how to treat them, and get the best from them and in our case on a dairy farm having the best followers was crucial to the herd. Was great to see the company coming back to you about the little issue with the feeder. This is pretty rare these days, as customer service on the whole is going backwards. Thanks for taking the time to bring us these videos Josh.

Josh have you thought about getting a few more feeders for the pens that way you have a feeder for each pen and also getting extra teats for the feeders that way you got a set in some disinfectant then change them over after every feeding

Nice one Josh you're doing an awesome job with the calves with twenty in group it takes time and patients to make sure their feeding and you did it so well
When you have 120 thats going to make for a busy few weeks until their weaned off the milk
You're explanation of the weighing of the milk powder and mixing and all you do makes it so interesting and i really like that

I recently watched a US dairy farmer putting his calves on an automatic feeder for tithe first time a few weeks ago. It wasn’t anything like this. It was quite traumatic seeing him lose his temper and slap the calves because they didn’t get what they were supposed to do. It’s a very different way of farming. I like it the way it’s done here.

I reckon you'll soon get sick of taking those feeders into the pens to feed them and getting pushed around. Just wait until they're twice the size. I would recommend feeders that hook over a gate rail.

Warm milk is a must in my opinion
Warm water is better for cleaning the fats left from the milk powder
Not a fan of those big feeders how do you know that each calf is getting 3 litres no more no less ? Stock board on pen decision gates to stop the spread of diseases from pen to pen, are you vaccinating for respiratory diseases ? Please keep calf updates coming Josh 👍

Calf pellets are very good too. I generally wash the milk dispensers out with the cold hose in a morning then on an evening hot soapy water with a drop of sterilising fluid. Then once a week I do them with the steam cleaner. Every little helps to keep the bacteria down

Ive used these 20 teat feeders for years. I max out at 18 calves on each feeder to allow some shy ones a little space. Also when calves get stronger the bully boys can turn them over, just a heads up. Great work

Them wee young calves need the milk heated up a bit if calf sucking a cow the milk is warm
