I lot of people talk about Gon being equal to the king. However, in the manga, Pitou said Gon could injure the King, not beat him. And that was a pre rose Meruem Pitou was referring to.

Fanboy going crazy in these comments fr. Pitou said Gon was a potential threat to the king, not equal to him. Also, the vow that Gon made was to bring all of his future potential, that means all the power he could've ever achieved, in exchange for a fate worse than death. That being never being able to use nen again and have almost died bc of that. So adult Gon would be Netero level, maybe stronger. But since his IQ and experience is a mere fraction of Netero's, the King would defeat way faster than he did with Netero. Meruem no diff.

In the manga and the anime, Pitou says that he is allegedly equal or, "his fangs could sink into" the king.

Technically in both manga and anime. Adult Gon is said to have rival the king's power, meaning strength goes to both. The only reason Meruem would win is because he's a genius. However, realistically Gon is the poster child so he wouldn't lose anyways..

New theory:
Gon as a baby was inside Greed Island. But we learn in the anime that you can only enter Greed Island if you use nen in front of a game console. Gon as a baby didn't have nen. Suggesting that Gon was born in Greed Island. Or, Gon was one of the restrcted spell cards. Ging must have finished that game in the test phase so Ging then was granted the ability to bring along 3 cards outside the game. One of these spell cards must have been Gon. Could the reason that Hisoka follow him be the reason to obtain a Greed Island spell card in the form of Gon? Maybe it was Hisoka after all who cleared the game (instead of Ging)? In the test phase 12 years ago
