Btw, apologies for the derpy April Fool's video yesterday. It was a last minute decision, and one I probably should have skipped.

@Thelonelyshepherd1 well, I paraphrased a bit. might not have been "Shuttleworth said" so much as "Shuttleworth and the Ayatana team decided", but generally Shuttleworth is the front-man, the one who takes the flak.

Thanks. :)

@Justgoodvids nope. I talked about it a while back. Shuttleworth said he wants to keep it on the left, with the Ubuntu button. He said it might be possible to flip the whole interface for right-to-left languages, but not otherwise.

@Gawernator GNOME is being updated to a newer version in about 3 days, and the majority of the work Canonical has done in terms of new widgets/applications are all reliant on Gnome 2, so it was either rewrite a bunch of apps, or make their own DE.

@kazaroka it's called "Deliberate Thought", by Kevin MacLeod. Link to his site is in the video description.

@derekstech not sure exactly what you're referring to, but yes, "unity" with "gnome-global-menu" was in 10.10. However, THIS unity is 100% different from the one in 10.10, and continues to evolve day by day.

As far as testing in Virtualbox, I've been doing it for years now, and it continues to serve me well. In cases like this I also test on a physical machine, but it makes it easier to capture the screen on a VM.

@vegetarianshrimp I'm in the semi-finals. Round 2, we'll find out about on or after the 8th. The important thing is to keep voting if you want to! :)

@NetraAmorosi I didn't think the STA driver was open source. Just some of the 802.11N chips' drivers were open sourced. Those should be included in the 2.6.38 kernel, but the grand majority of Broadcom hardware (I guess the stuff coverd by STA) will still require a driver/firmware.

@Honeybee155 if you're using an ATI or Nvidia graphics card, you have to install the proprietary drivers to make Unity work correctly. System -> Administration -> Additional Drivers will hopefully do it.

@ckildegaard they've revamped the Alt + f2 interface for this one to be similar to Gnome DO and the way Gnome Shell does things now. Lots more keyboard interactivity.
There was a project called EXDE that was going to fork Gnome 2, but apparently it fell through.

@Herzchell it won't release with the proprietary drivers, but Ubuntu provides jockey-gtk (the Additional Drivers feature) that will find and install the drivers you need, or they should. I don't know if they've got the ATI drivers ready yet, but they will be ready before April 28th.

@Skybinary I render my videos at Mpeg2, 6000k (6mbps) and upload them at 1080p. YouTube reencodes them, though, so they should be the same as everyone else's.

@TheMeanEYE well, the ad revenue means I get paid for the hours and hours of work I put into each video. :)

@Nekryu I'm not a huge fan of the complete redirection that Unity and Gnome Shell are taking, but I'm becoming accustomed to them quickly. Personally, I've grown a bit more attached to Gnome Shell than unity.

@TheMeanEYE yeah, the overlay scrollbars were there in the dash.

@duminicad I used to work with it extensively as well, and I avoided virtualbox like the plague, but like I said, it's made some significant strides in terms of desktop virtualization.

@Thelonelyshepherd1 I probably did, a bit. the case where shuttleworth said he wants it on the left was taken from a quote he put out there, so technically he did say it.
I'm not the one giving them grief over it, though.

@jrc2k I definitely can. I haven't looked at Kubuntu in a long time, so it might be time to give it a look.

@joddymixman I traditionally use kazam or ffmpeg. I don't believe kazam is available for 11.04 yet. The 11.04 videos I've done so far, however, have been done within Virtualbox on top of Arch Linux.
Using something like that, you could run your webcam with Cheese or Guvcview, put it wherever you want on the desktop, and be good to go.

@flamingfigures yeah, Unity looks like it would be really nice on a tablet/touch-enabled device.
