After thousands of hours of work, wish we would get videos longer than 4 minutes. This is so cool! No wonder the movie looked so good.

The movie visuals are absolutely STAGGERING! Been watching major blockbusters for more than 30years now and Ridley nailed it yet again, it looks like a painting in movement. Congratulations everyone involved! 🎉🔥

These before and after stills are incredible. No wonder the actors are so amazed at the finished film. The impressive practical sets are made even more incredible by ILM.

Ridley’s strength has always been incredible visuals and even at 80... he’s only gotten better with realism and scale

Pure Spectacle.
0:30 one of the greatest shots in Cinema History, those fire particles -haze-smoke coming towards the perfection 🤌🏼.

Okay, they deserve the Oscar nomination, this is insane

Those ship-car models were a pretty cool way to do it. Especially in the desert. I just assumed that was two distinct shoots combined, but the practical work was cool
ILM are the undisputed OGs but recently framestore have been killing it as well

So much excellent work in this film. Thought the ships scene was a bit over the top, till I read that yes the Romans actually had arenas they could fill with water for sea battles.

Music and Scene Changing seems to match perfectly.

For those who think it looks fake: As you can see here, large portions of almost every shot were real, augmented with CGI. With the crowds, armies, and buildings, you literally can't tell what's real and what isn't until they reveal it. So, to say it’s not realistic is simply untrue. The problem is that, as a viewer, you subconsciously (or consciously) know a lot of it isn’t real, and that changes your perception. For example, if you know for a fact the city you’re looking at doesn’t exist, and you know there’s no way they built an entire city, the only logical conclusion is that it’s CGI. Once you realize this, it feels fake, no matter how real it looks— and that shifts your perception of it.
The same applies to the crowds and armies. They look so convincingly real that you can’t tell who or what is real until you see the behind-the-scenes breakdown. However, because you know they didn’t use 30, 000 extras in period costumes, you assume it must be fake — even for the parts that are real, and presto! it looks fake.
If anything lets it down, it’s the animals. That’s probably due to budget or time constraints, which is often the case when CGI doesn’t meet expectations.
Unfortunately, your perception of things you know to be fake is unlikely to change, no matter how good the CGI is. The only time you might not notice CGI is when it’s used for something mundane. For instance, in The Joker, large sections of the city, the graffiti in the train stations, the blood, and much more were CGI, yet no one noticed. Similarly, in Top Gun: Maverick, most of the planes, their interiors, and even some of the landscapes they flew through were CGI, but it went unnoticed, probably in part because the makers were, shall we say, less than truthful when talking about the making. They said, 'its all filmed in camera!', and 'real jets were used!' but neglected to mention they were all different, cheaper jets that were completely digitally replaced.
Another example of how knowledge affects perception is when you're told no CGI was used. For example, you might see someone in a costume in some behind the scenes footage and assume it’s real in the movie, even if (without your knowledge) the costume was only used for lighting references, and the character was entirely replaced by CGI in the final film. This happens quite often because practical effects sometimes have limitations, such as restricted movement or a clunky appearance.
Interestingly, I’ve seen people criticize “bad CGI” when the effect was actually achieved using practical methods, and conversely, praise the absence of CGI in films that were full of it.

Wow, there are shots I thought they were full cgi but not, Ridley Scott in terms of building sets and making action is top tear

actually this is the part that interests me the most, even more than watching the movie.

Really cool that it's the same double-sided fortress from Kingdom of Heaven, back in use after almost 10 years!

Would love to have some narration to this on what tools were used for the different portions of the city. Amazing work!

Die Tricks hat man so im Film nicht gesehen, Respekt. Das koennen nicht viele Filme.
