Hello guys and gals, it's me Mutahar again! This time we take a look at how Google has now been deemed a monopoly by the US Government. This label makes the future of not just this one company but rather most other companies in this field tread carefully in the future and ruling like this if upheld could change the course of tech going forward. How so? Let's find out! Thanks for watching!

I want to apologize for the audio being lower than usual in this. In the final recording the main microphone ended up being quite staticky due to a change in my main recording system.

I had to rely on the backup mic which I normally never have too and I apologize for that.

Judge: that’ll be a 7 dollar fine and you have to pinky swear to try and not be a monopoly.

Wow! Who couldve known that the company with billions of dollars who owns the biggest search engine and youtube the biggest content creation website had a monopoly?!?

I bet they recently googled "How not to be a monopoly", then got terrible AI search results telling them how exactly to be a monopoly. That or they got the rules for the board game Monopoly instead.

Mudahar didn’t mention this, but the practice of bribing other companies so that they don’t try to step on your turf is also a violation of federal antitrust law.

Google is also breaking their advertisement policies. They are showing people political ads which is not supposed to be allowed

Any massive L for Google is a massive W for the consumer 👍

The bigger question is anything going to happen, or are they just going to get a 100 million fine or something that doesn't matter and changes nothing. Microsoft lost monopoly lawsuits and they just paid some trivial fines, and that was when government in America was still regulating corporations. Now we have no hope, just the illusion of hope when Google loses a lawsuit, except it is crushed once that loss does nothing meaningful. This seems like government posturing. They have to maintain the appearance of not being bought and paid for by corporations through super PACs.

The AT&T breakup in 1984 under the sherman act and telecommunications act of 1996 would be a good reference for this.

Because the large carriers had all the equipment, and in the best locations, smaller companies couldn't compete because they had no real place to build infrastructure. The government made the large companies let the small guys piggyback their sites as a result.

Imagine the lawsuit also forces Google to cease their war on adblock. Probably not, but if Google and Adobe can be sued and lose the lawsuit, anything is possible.

Really do not underestimate that Android integration either. That's all that's keeping me on Google now days. And no I'm not just talking about default search engines. Half the damn features feed information to Google, the photo album, file explorer, you even need to have a Google account and obviously everything you download is associated with that account.

Didn't Google use to have a motto "Don't be evil"? They failed that a long time ago.

Getting an ad for google maps before the video and then again less than one minute into the video really hit different considering the context of it 👁️👄👁️

Unfortunately its not just them being basically a monopoly already, but its also that their searches are literally _degrading_ from year to year
It's genuinely gotten a lot worse over the last years, and keeps getting worse

They're convicted, now there needs to be sentencing and *punishment.* _Actual_ *punishment.*

One wonders who at the company top didn't think that getting massive fines in Europe for running a monopoly wasn't a hint that they were running a monopoly and might get them convicted in the US for running a monopoly.

Google has already been convicted of being a gatekeeper in the EU for about a year. Which is effectively the same as a monopoly. The only difference is the US also realizes that now, which is the only thing that matters, since they are based in the US.

It's worrying to see how much control Google has in the digital market. For the sake of innovation, it's necessary for some level of government intervention and prevention of tech monopolies. However, regulatory actions could also stifle growth. It's a complex issue that requires careful consideration.

3:22 - The other reason is because if one company controlled an industry, then they could charge as much as they wanted for the products and get away with it, because consumers would have no other choice. An unchecked monopoly would see price gouging with no regulation.
