Kyaffe Coffee Briquette – 2019 SEED Low Carbon Award

Kyaffe trains women smallholder coffee farmers to produce renewable energy briquettes from waste coffee husks. The enterprise is implemented by the women themselves with backing from Kyaffe Farmers Coffee as well as support from the Consortium for enhancing University Responsiveness to Agribusiness Development (CURAD) for mentoring and training. Product sales help women boost their household incomes in addition to providing long-lasting, cleaner and environmentally-friendly alternative to firewood and charcoal.
