Keynote - Slack

At our industry conferences, we get the opportunity to commune with other people who share our fundamental, data-oriented way of viewing the world, the problems we face, and the techniques and technologies that we admire.

But back at our day jobs, effective leadership of our teams means that we need to work with other leaders across design, user experience, and product to make better decisions by leveraging all of the tools and practices at our disposal. This can be difficult even under the best of circumstances, given our different backgrounds, the different ways that we approach problems, and the different organizational structures that we operate under.

Ultimate success here relies on understanding and acknowledging the limits of analysis and models, and being open to relying on qualitative knowledge and fundamental intuition as a key component of how we get things done.

As we close out our first day at Rev, I want to talk about what we have learned about using data in close collaboration with design, user experience, and product in the service of making better decisions at Slack, and how that experience has helped us build better data science teams.
