HUNTER GUIDE: WoW Season of Mastery
This is Toyhouze. So you want to know about hunters huh? Back in 2005 when world of warcraft was first released, my first and main character was a Hunter named Kayu. And since then I’ve played years of my life worth of time as a hunter. So let’s talk all about the hunter. But this time we’re going to look at hunter through the lense of season of mastery, and there are some major changes coming which are highly advantageous for the hunter.

First off, Hunters are easily one of the easiest classes to play, but definitely hard to master. Early on levels 1-10 can be rough without a pet, there will be lots of kiting, but once you have a pet with growl, which will act as a taunt, you will start zooming through the levels.

Hunters excel at leveling. With an animal companion, hunters can take on multiple mobs and solo group quests other classes can’t. This is a really big deal in season of mastery because of the increased experience from quests. Whether Blizzard decides to make it 25% or 40% or whatever, if there is increased experience from quests it’s going to be helping Hunters A LOT since that is the type of leveling that they excel at.

In addition, hunters have GREAT sustain, with very minimal downtime. Top it all off with high mobility with aspect of the cheetah at level 20, and their pet’s bestial swiftness, and hunters are high mobility and ultimately top tier levelers. They can get to max level fast and easily.

So, I’d rate a hunter as 5/5 for Leveling Speed. They are really second to none and a lot of the top records for fastest level 60 are by hunters.
They perform quite well in world pvp because of their mobility and pet, so they won’t get ganked often, in fact they are quite skilled gankers if they can get the jump on their prey.

In PvP, the 8 yard deadzone is the bane of hunters. If you stand close enough to a hunter that they can’t ranged attack, and far enough away that they can’t melee you, that’s the hunter’s deadzone. Where they literally can’t do anything against you. Of course they could throw a bomb or bandage, but they aren’t going to be able to use ranged attacks or melee. Mages often will use frost nova and then sit in the hunters dead zone. This deadzone hurts hunters a lot in PvP. Not to mention they are really not very effective at all in melee range. So lots of melee classes can make short work of a hunter if they get up close.

That’s not to say a skilled hunter can’t do perform at the highest levels of PvP, it’s just harder compared to other classes. A skilled hunter can scatter shot trap enemies that get too close and try to create some distance. The skill ceiling of hunters is super high.

Wonder why no one is mentioning that even if warriors level faster, they will get outgeared quicker making their leveling even harder. I've played lots of private servers with lots of different xp rates, this is a big problem for a lot of classes.

one last thing... i really wish for this SoM, Blizz would make all specs viable and address these mana issues. maybe implement tbc talents an/or revisions. if anythign the revisions on talents which help aide more in mana for specs like boomie and ele sham. Hewlp make the game more enjoyable an i bet you (an i am a table games manager at a casino, i know a good bet when i see one) more will want to play.

Warrior has been my main since vanilla and I prefer to eat or bandage after a fight instead of drinking water. Warrior can take on several fights in a row before the need to heal if you got a good rotation and can take on several enemies at once when you get decent gear. That they removed Bandage in later expansions made me annoyed because bandaging is the way of the warrior, you fight and bandage to quickly get in to next fight! You could also bandage others which was awesome and very appreciated while leveling. I might come back to this season because I had no clue about that they did seasons, I enjoy when all are starting fresh.

Hey, what would u suggest for a relative new player as far as a PVP class ? Have a background in MMOs like ESO and Ultima online. Looking for a little guidance as to which class I should pick

As far as druid tanks go in phase 1 going into MC, they'll be better than warriors with just blue gear for tanking. Just be prepared to spend 3-5 hours a week in Gnomeregan, more if you are main tanking.

I usually main rogue in classic but I plan on going holy pally to make it easy to get into groups on SOM.

I played a warrior tank with purple logs and a Druid out threat me in aq40. Feral Druid tank on alliance is litterly just as good as warrior, only missing out on the CDs. I think in MC Druid will be even better because they can have close to BiS at the first raid if you go Gnom farming
