Jeff, you were so sweet with the lady with the three snakes, added bonus was you not judging her cluttered garage. That's very telling about what a kind-hearted person you are. ❤

Releasing 3 snakes at night in the desert must be tricky! Especially with one super feisty snake!

Shiver! I would not wear open toed shoes in an area where I'd seen a rattlesnake. I don't ever wear open toed shoes outside anyway, can't due to need for shoes that support my old feet.
Plus we are next to semi arid, permanent open space. Part of the natural range of mountain lions; our Simi Hills in Southern California are mentioned in the stories about the progress on the Annenberg Wildlife Crossing, being constructed across 10 lanes of a busy LA area freeway!! We have an old wildlife tunnel under the mountain by our home, but still have mountain lions & other wildlife struck by cars on our much smaller freeeway.
Our area is prime rattlesnake habitat. Back when I was physically able to hike next door, we encountered lovely rattlesnakes a few times. A decade ago & more, but I was taught very young to respect all critters, & already knew that rattlesnakes just want us to leave them the eff alone.
Unless they need rescuing & relocating.

Nice. I wish I was lucky enough to find a group of rattlers in my shed. I only have tons of eastern gartersnakes and the occasional milksnake or hognose snake in there.

The non-venomous California King feeds on the Western D-Back. I never had a bad experience with the Western D-Back. That said, I do become a bit more cognizant when a see the majestic Black/White California King.
