This is all Monopoly money... the owners are Billionaire's. This is what the NBA medical exemption clause is for. If they enact the clause and Embiid doesnt play for 1 year they can waive him and NONE of the money will count against the cap if the injury is determined to be "career ending". They signed him to an extension because they wanted to get that new arena built and wanted the city to think the team was going tp be competitive for the next couple of years with him. As Chase Srm just said... his contract before the extension would take him to 2026... the extension is 3 years which takes him to 2029 ( at 35 years old) The new stadium is set to open in 2030. Giving him the extension was a political move with the bigger motive of getting the deal for thr new stadium DONE, which is what happened so mission accomplished.

These Billionaire's are Billionaire's for a reason... they play Chess not checkers with this shit. They made a small sacrifice having to pay Embiid the rest of his money (even if he's hurt) to accomplish a bigger goal of owing a brand new stadium in the middle of downtown and dont owe nobody shit because they paid for it outright, no state money.

I don’t blame Embiid as much as I blame the Sixers. Embiid’s knee has not been good since college. It doesn’t generally heal when there is cartilage loss but I believe he wants to play. The point is that the knee is shot and will never be the same. The only good thing is that he will allow the team to tank because they won’t have to worry as much about the minimum salary.

I’ve been convinced since he came back last yr for the playoffs. I myself have had 3ACL reconstructions and 2 meniscus surgeries, eventually getting it all removed to bone to bone so I know a lil thing or two about knees n saw myself in Embiid last season n knew he was toast. That’s what happens, u can not launch, n he couldn’t dunk as a 7footer was the tell tale sign.
