for the positive tone of the series and the optimistic message one naturally skips the scene became commander of the National Guard for disobeying orders and high treason against the President of the United States to death or life imprisonment in a maximum security prison. but that is exactly what would happen here if the commander of Michigan's nationalger defied a direct order from the President and professed his loyalty to the Michigan governor who posed here as usopator

I remember really liking this show but this scene always stuck with me, the country literally lost all but 3 people high up in the government one being kirkman and the others being the lady and the dude that survives the explosion. I feel like in all actuality if this were to happen that all it would do is sow more discontent in the United States rather than unifying. I personally think he should’ve taken the Abraham Lincoln approach after the civil war and let them go as it would cause more problems if they were arrested. Although I guess you could say he did take Lincoln’s approach at the beginning when he arrested the delegates from Maryland. Kind of a dumb oversight how the writes of this show assumed that the entire United States civilians would be okay with a sitting governor getting imprisoned.

Ummm, POTUS doesn't have the authority to place anyone under arrest. Law enforcement has to to that. He could be there and deliver a speech, sure, but he doesn't order people to jail or indict on charges.
