Let me just say, I am SO GLAD this video was made because I am so tired of winter essential videos done by people who live in LA dominating youtube. This is WAY more helpful!

I live in Germany and we still have "real" winters with snow, ice and cold wind even though they aren't as harsh like 15 years ago. People who are used to californian weather would still freeze. Everytime I see a "winter" lookbook and the person is just wearing a thin sweater with destroied jeans, I'm wondering how they would react to a real winter weather.

Something to mention here (even tho this video isn’t new), is that the indicated degree that a brand indicates the piece can withstand, doesn’t indicate you’ll be toasty when out in that temperature. It indicates that the piece will keep you alive in that temperature! I recently learned that when I went camping at the end of Fall, close to winter. My sleep bag indicated 10 degrees (F) and that night was about 17 degrees but I couldn’t fall asleep because I was so cold! Searching more about that phenomenon the next day, I came to learn you’re supposed to look for a sleeping bag that is rated 10-15 degrees warmer than the expected weather outside, if that makes sense!

As a fellow Canadian I would agree entirely with your list, but add one more item: a thin down vest to layer underneath your wool coat to make it a bit warmer (when you eventually get sick of your parka). I would never be without one. Stay warm!! From Ottawa- where it's even colder!! 🥶

Thanks for doing this video. I live in NYC and have to dress comfortably for all climates. I don't understand influencers who live in a real winter and force being "minimal". I have four sweaters, 4 sweater dresses, 4 wool tights, cashmere socks, a long puffer (w/hood, -30F protection, and waterproof), a long wool coat, snow boots, dressier boots, and a casual boot, gloves, hat, and scarf for winter. One coat and like two sweaters don't cut it for most people. I gave up on that and consider my wardrobe pragmatic and thoughtful.

As a glasses wearer, the pom pom keeping the hood up is the BEST tip I've ever heard in my life. Gosh it's impossible to keep water off my lenses. It's not quite the same here in NZ, we don't get super cold weather. But we rain most of the year so absolutely still got a lot out of this video 😂✌🏻

Suddenly remembering being required to wear a skirt to school as part of the uniform in Russia in the winter. I used to layer 3 pairs of knitted tights and knitted pants over them. 😅
Great video!

I'm so happy to see Uniqlo heat tech recommended! These pieces are so warm and perfect for winter on Canada! Also I totally agree Tru Earth is great in cleaning and caring for all my fave garments.

Oh my goodness-
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS!!
I've watched other winter wardrobe videos
But all of those are like the type of clothes I'd wear in autumn/spring when it's _mildly_ cold
There's no way one would survive winter in Belgium with those clothes
But this was very helpful for a _real_ winter wardrobe!!

I know it can feel irritable to some people, but Alpaca is also another great material to keep warm. I have alpaca sweaters that look comparatively thinner and have a looser knit compared to my wool and cashmere sweaters but they keep me just as warm. Agree that innerwear is a must. They also keep your clothes fresher and cleaner for longer inbetween washes.

This is great! I have a hard time finding videos for actually cold winters. Now, I'm on the west coast of BC so we get WET and often windy winters, which means waterproof parkas and umbrellas and boots. The key is to stay dry because once you're wet, you lose heat fast.

I live in Lapland, and we also use winter pants (?) even with the long parkas. The down ones are the best.

Love this so much! We are from Michigan so very close to Canada and we get lake effect snow. Cuddl Duds are my favorite base layers, they're so soft and I wear their turtlenecks as fashion wear in winter! Also anything Smartwool! Their socks are incredible and we get the hiker socks and they're so durable and cute looking. Plus their customer service is incredible! Winter lasts so long for us so it's good to invest in all the proper winter gear like you shared! This is a great video!

Thanks for proper winter essentials for those of us with cold winters! I live in Utah, USA which experiences extreme temps/weather in all 4 seasons. We got thunder snow and about one foot of snowfall (in my area) last night. My essentials are very similar to yours.

Thanks for keeping it real. I’m all about the layering in colder weather, which does create more laundry. I’m a huge fan of Tru Earth and trust their products with all my clothes.

I'm from Germany and I love all my merino layers from the brand "Icebreaker" and my jackets are from "Wellensteyn" - breatheable, water resistant and the warmest I have worn yet.
Thank you for your content 💕
