I've seen that interlacing pattern for real... walked around an old Roman kitchen floor just south of Coimbra, Portugal on vacation (college archaeologists were unearthing a long buried Roman home). So weird to think of the people living and working in that kitchen never imagining 2000 years later people would be admiring their kitchen flooring.

ANDAMENTO means MOVEMENT/DIRECTION..you need to follow the direction of the drawing to set up and let it unfold. It is like visualising from a starting drawing how it will develop and trying to stay consistent and coherent all the time.
