Thorleifur Davidsson Pabbavals (My Fathers Waltz)

Показать описание
We met up with Thor in the Capriolas saddle shop in Elko this year. Thor was playing few shows at the national cowboy poetry gathering alongside friend Sterling Drake. Thor had this to say
I’m from Iceland and have lived all over the south part of the island, from the black sand beaches of Vík to the fishing village in Westman Islands. My father was a horse trainer so I’ve been around horses my whole life. It’s hard not to have a connection to farming when you live out in the countryside, although we never had livestock I was around it a lot.
6 years ago my father passed away in a tragic accident when he was training a horse he had recently started. My way of dealing with the grieve was to play music, through that process a lot of songs came to me. 'Pabbavals' came first and I played it at his funeral. The song is also deeply rooted in the Icelandic tradition of ‘tvísöngur’, where two voices sing in fifths. My father would have been very proud to see me performing it on this channel, he loved the American cowboy culture and was deeply inspired by vaquero horsemanship.
Thorleifur Davidsson is a 4 x Grammy winning multi-instrumentalist from Iceland. When not touring with Kaleo, Thorleifur is creating and collaborating in Nashville, TN and Reykjavik, Iceland. Through the years he has played on countless records with artists like Sierra Ferrell, Laufey, Sterling Drake, Marcus King, Kaleo, Colby Acuff, Mugison, and Tony Trischka.
