Imagine being the person who discovered this? As far as you know every cave you've explored has never had this, then during your exploration you just look up and see a thousand hanging snakes.. nightmare fuel

I lived in Quintana Roo for about five years, teaching English and exploring the region. The cenotes (subterranean rivers accessible in caves) were a particular interest. I drove all over the peninsula, visiting every cenote I could find. Tiny privately owned ones, and big popular tourist spots. Still the 2nd coolest thing about the area, after the ruins, in my personal experience.
