The Enormous Turnip - Fairy Tales - Repka - Moral Stories

“The Enormous Turnip” or “The Gigantic Turnip” (Russian: Repka) is a children’s fairy tale or folktale of Russian/ Slavic origin, written by Aleksey Tolstoy.
It is a progressive story, in which a grandfather plants a turnip, which grows so big that he cannot pull it up himself. He asks the grandmother for help, and together they still cannot pull it up. So they call their granddaughter, then their dog, cat, and mouse to help. The humor in the story is that only with the help of the weakest and smallest creature (the mouse) can the giant turnip be pulled up. The moral of this story is that if we all work together, we can do anything. And even a tiny help can be vital.
Flannelgraph (also called flannel board or flannelgram) is a storytelling system that uses a board covered with flannel fabric. It’s great for storytelling. This set of folktales made by Stigis will be a wonderful present for little kids (speaking any language) and also for English teachers and English learners.
