THASSOS ISLAND

Thassos, the "Emerald Island" in the North Aegean Sea was the first place I ever worked as a certified tourist guide for two seasons at the end of the '80s and it still holds a special place in my heart.
There is nothing not to be found on this beautiful island:
Easy and short ferry transportation from the mainland, with the airport of Kavala nearby, green pine woods and olive groves, clear turquoise seawater and sandy beaches, antiquity and monuments across the island, delicious food, nightlife, and lots of shopping for every kind of visitor and ages.
Thassos was one of the great naval and commercial powerful states of ancient Greece even from prehistory and it held for centuries a strategic place, due to its gold mining, excellent white marble quarries, rich forests and its position between Greece and the Black Sea, Europe and Asia, as a sea lane crossroad to ships.
