I found mine in a pawn shop about 10 years ago and paid just $35 for it. Other than needing a new stylus, its been trouble free ever since. Its an incredible machine.

The Legendary Techniques SL 1200 MK 2 are great turntables. I bought my 1200s back in 2002" And they still Look nice And new And they still work excellent. Good review.

You just can't overstate how special these turntables are! I was lucky enough to score a beautiful, very lightly used black version of the Technics 1200 MK2 from an eBay seller! It came packed in the original box just like it was from the factory and even came with a brand new dust cover. It is the pride of my music room! I paid about $700 USD and I don't regret a single penny! I truly loved watching your video because you truly get it my friend!

I love this guy . Great review!

I bought my 1200mk2 at an estate sale. There was a pair of them in a dj rig case. It was the last day of the sale .... 75% off. I got it for under $250 and not beat up. I should have bought both of them.

My aunt has two of those and I'm getting one of them when I finally get a headshell and cartridge. Then I can enjoy this thing fully. I'm so glad!!

Very enjoyable review...love the shexy style lol...I sold my pair in 2003, after using them to make mix tapes for myself and friends, basically I was a bedroom DJ. Forget Numark, Vestax, Gemini etc . This is the definitive DJs turntable, a bonafide wheel of steel. I used Ortofon Concords on mine, a match made in heaven..

You use a cartridge alignment protractor to tell where you needle should sit. You can even print one out at home, but I have a protractor disk.

officially, the turntable was in continuous production for 29 years, from 1981 till 2010.  It's incredibly reliable and has a lot of versatility.  Though some purest prefer the earlier Technics SP-10MK2 for it's "slightly" better sound projection, you won't find a better built, more reliable, and more versatile turn table then the SL-1200MK2.

i have had mine since 1987 and i will never sell it it is by far a better built turntable than 4000 $ unit i have not had any problems and have not heard about anyone that has

If you were a DJ you bought 2 of these.
There were no other serious choices.
Got mine in 1985.
$300 each.
Lasted 20 years until I sold them.
40 hours of use a week.
Zero issues ever.

5:10 regarding overhang and alignment. You need to Google "Technics Baerwald Arc Protractor" including instructions if you can find them. Print it off, selecting "fill to page" in printing preferences. That protractor will take care of overhang and alignment OR instead of the protractor watch the YouTube tutorials on the "Technics overhang gauge" and order one online.

i have had my pair of Technics sl-1200's since 1987 and they have never been serviced and still work like new to this very day, they use them in dmc mixing competitions... doesn't that tell you something...

I have two of this exact model, almost going on 30 years of cutting and scratching and they still hold up!

Your Technics should have come with an "alignment jig". It's a little white plastic piece which you mount your headshell onto. There's a little triangle on the jig which you line up with your needle. You can also get an alignment protractor for about $5 on amazon which will help you get the right alignment. You're right, it's a very important adjustment.

You need to clean that record too.

Any tips for buying a turntable used in the Netherlands? E.g. what do you think about the tec custom shop in den bosch?

Would you agree the sl1900 mkII is the closest you can get to the 1200 mkII ? Except 1900 mkII has automatic features.
