Had my 2014 d max x runner for over ten years from new, never had any issues with it, just replaced first clutch at 220000 km.

Own a 2023 Model D-Max and have loved it since day one. Handles extremely well and tows my trailer flawlessly and a pressure washing trailer fully loaded without issue.

The Triton is without a doubt the clear winner here.

I drove both, and ended up buying a Mazda BT50 Thunder, which of course is a re-badged D-Max, but with a better degree of interior finish and a company that is actually pretty good to deal with.

Fair test well done. The Triton will be better with its first upgrade. I think the Superselect AWD puts the Triton in elite company for safety in slippery conditions.

Got a triton GSR a few weeks ago. Love it, except for the driver monitoring system which is a pain in the arse. I am 6 foot 4 so room is at a premium. Didn’t pick the Isuzu purely because I found the Triton roomier

Just did the whole “test drive every ute” thing. Really liked the Triton. They are being sold at significant discounts for demos much cheaper than the demax. However the 2024 demax felt better to drive and I felt more comfortable with it (tritons suspension driven back to back was much worst). Also these reviews never mention the demax bump steer issue. It’s a real thing and supposedly fixed in the 2024 model, but we won’t really know for a while yet will we? What did I buy? A Navara Warrior. Yes it’s an older platform but it cost the same and had essentially $10k worth of off-road mods already done. It’s really great value for money and you have the peace of mind that all issues have been ironed out.

Best review on the net.
Real world usage - on the road w family.
I’d pick the Isuzu as it has a 3L single turbo under less stress.
Twin turbo WILL BE PROBLEMATIC.

They're struggling hard to sell those Tritons. Just bagged a GSR for 56.5K no joke. Beats the Hilux SR5 63K minimum starting price so win 4 me.

There is a shortcut to turn the face monitor off! And it has been updated so it isn’t to finicky.

Isuzu for me. It's likely at the end of the line for this version before a full update. The new Triton is just in its infancy of life cycle, hence expect improvements in it's life cycle down the line.

For me I'd go for Isuzu D max for its fuel economy, reliability, durability and roughness 💪💪💪

Mitsubishi super select is a great feature, which I loved in mine BUT I would never trust Mitsubishi again after my late 2015 4D56 over heated & engine blew a head gasket after a bad run of roughly machined engine blocks which they said was resolved earlier in 2014. Mitsubishi replaced the engine in 'good faith' but would not warranty the job.
Now I'm in a 4jj3 & love it. Isuzu has been great in servicing & that 4jj3 is a solid performer. They may have issues like bump steer (which they are replacing) but after Mitsubishi....engine reliability is the key deciding factor for me.

We had one of these kept it for 2 years ...sold it... bought a toyota tray back for work and an xtrail suv for general driving and wife to use with kids
So much better ...tray back holds more than 2 times the gear its drop sides make everything in and out easy and lower to ground yet high enough to get you out of mud
Xtrail is great wife can park it anywhere plenty of storage in back kids can grab whatever they need in back ....dont follow trends. Get what you need .

For the Triton being a whole new level of technology from the old, they are bound to have imperfections with mechanical and electrical. Same with every car when it's a new model and so on. I would choose the dmax because it's been perfected from past experiences. I literally just bought the exact same dmax y'day.

Kinda agree with the crew’s observation. Triton sounds noisy from the outside, specially when the AC compressor kicks in. The 4JJ3 on the dmax idles very well compared to the older 4JJ1s.

Worth considering is the tritons warranty. Pretty large if I recall correctly. Also the dealer now offers a mod to make the driver monitoring less shit. Surprised neither was brought up in this review.

Our fortuner 2.4L 2016 shifts smoother than the dmax 3.0L 2024😂. But the performance of the dmax is better than the fortuner.

Save yourself a heap more cash by buying the triton GLS deluxe with the leather interior…then it’s a no brainer!!

Both are better choice than the overpriced, 10 years old gen, hilux
