How To Grow On Twitch?

If you want to grow your Twitch stream, it is important to be critical. Being critical isn’t a bad thing, people say, “Oh don’t be so critical of yourself!”.

But there are a lot of things you can control and improve, such as your visuals, audio, and most importantly your content that you’re creating. Watch back your VoD and be honest with yourself, is it up to scratch. Does your mic sound good? Are you engaging? Is it easy to watch and enjoy or is there something that is off-putting? Be honest, push yourself to grow, and become a better entertainer!

Because at the end of the day, the only way you are going to grow your stream is by growing yourself and being critical in a positive way.

What Bitrate And Settings Should I Use For Streaming?

The easiest way to understand bitrate is by calling what it actually is, your upload speed to the Twitch servers.

Now you’ll need a higher bitrate depending on how high quality you want your stream to be, this means 1080p 60 frames per second will need a bitrate of 6000, which roughly equals 6megabits upload speed on your end being taken up

By lowering your resolution and framerate, you can make it a lot easier to stream, for example, if you set your base canvas size to 1920x1080, but change your output to 1280x720 otherwise known as 720p you drop down to only needing a bitrate of 4500 or 4.5megabits.

If you still want 1080, you can even just lower your framerate from 60fps to 30fps and then adjust to 4500bitrate.

The style of this video is similar to Alpha Gaming and Gaming Careers in parts. A large influence on this series has come from content creators like Wild4games and Nutty.

I've always gone by the mantra, "do not compare yourself to others, but compare yourself to yourself to see how you've grown and gotten better." You can use others as a guide to what is possible, but as you pointed out, many people just attract different audiences and each person needs to figure out who they attract, rather than be jealous or angry at successful people. I've known creators who have destroyed their own growth over disliking other creators to a point that they ban anyone who is a fan of their disliked target. It's not a healthy attitude.

Just wanted to drop in and say, thank you for all your content. I finally pulled the trigger this month on getting all the things together to start content creating/streaming (at 42 years young) and have been consuming your content for months now in preparation of starting what hopefully one day will be my day job. Thank you for taking the time to create these videos to help those of us who want to give content creation a try a bit of insights into what we can do out of the gate to help us grow.

I need this man, thankyou so much. My change is stop striving for perfection so much in my editing that it takes all the fun motivation and personality away.

Just wanted to say that I started following you because your creator growth advice is really good, but I have since stuck around because your *content* is really good and entertaining and I think you're hilarious. There is a lot of genuine passion and craft that goes into your edited videos and it shows and I appreciate you! I get so excited every time you post, not just because I think I'll get a neat nugget of wisdom from you, but because your videos are genuinely fun to watch. Thank you!!

I used to compare myself to other creators, especially ones I helped get started. But I realized that my community comes back because they feel like it is home. Makes the lack of growth worth it to allow those individuals the place they need for their sanity.

You know I used to think dang what am I doing wrong, why are they growing and I am not. Also I would guage myself against other creators to see what they were doing, to try and figure out what I was doing wrong. Honestly, now I am just being me. Showing my true self loving my hobby of playing video games and playing with viewers. Thats where I have felt I have truly seen growth. The hardest thing though is trying to stop looking at the analytics. Like man I really need to just detach from the analytics lol. Great video, Loved how you did the reverse psychology of bad creators are actually good creators!

I think the best thing to improve on (for myself at least), is to focus on my own stuff more. I used to fall into that hate pit of larger and "bad" creators growing out of nowhere and hating on it because I didn't understand why they were so popular. But after really looking at what they do and how they entertain people, it makes sense. They're amusing, they have fun bits and jokes to throw around and while it might not be my style of content that I prefer to watch, its still something that another person might really enjoy and is something that keeps them happy through a rough moment. Definetly a lot to think about and was another great Stream Scheme video as per usual!

Well done mate. Been in a creating slump where I’ve felt really unmotivated to do what I’ve come to enjoy (creating/editing videos) and I’m not saying this video is the inspiration to lift me from that slump, but it’s doing something for me. Thanks for your authenticity ElJay, it’s pretty dope

I have got a whole set up of a desk and cheap web cam and mic. I've been so worried about learning OBS and I have watched and rewatched your videos trying to get a hang of video editing. With this video I will be doing the things I have planned good or not.

I play FO76 and want to do how to videos and I wanted them to be perfect and worth watching. I fully intend upon starting immediately to just get some content out there now.

Also I think you're wonderful and I appreciate your content, outlook, and positive vibes. Thank you.

Your advice is great! Even for me, not gaming but holding productivity livestreams with Booktubers and Authortubers. This is helpful and I'm grateful.

In my case, I stream to You Tube occasionally as a hobby and for fun. I make occasional guest appearances on other channels as well. I have 256 subscribers which is growing slowly but steadily. While I do think a lot about presentation and production, the main thing for me is chatting with my audience and having fun doing it. Sometimes the game can be incidental depending on how much I need to concentrate.

If I'm not having fun doing it, need to take a break or other things in life get in the way, I'm safe in the knowledge that my audience appreciate this and will be there when I return.

My positive changes this year are to try to speak more clearly, run more community games sessions, and to win my bandle world championship of the universe that's running every stream this year.

Bro I know that some times negative comments can hurt because you might question whether other people think that too. Eljay if you see this, I love your videos and everything about them seem sooo REAL and natural like a person talking to the camera and when you make jokes I GENUINELY laugh. This twitter troll is legit just jealous that you are bigger then him
