A study out of Northwestern University finds that race may be a reason why some people aren’t hearing back from prospective employers.

Be extremely careful when you hear the word 'fit' or 'right fit' during or after an interview. What it really means to the interviewer is the notion...if they can sit in a small space with you for an amount of time without feeling uncomfortable. That is base on their own insecurity and weaknesses. They are not using logic to hire you...they are using emotions. You could be a genius capable of winning the Noble Prize but it doesn't mean nothing to an insecure interviewer.

I’m half Arabic half European but have a Arabic name - recently moved from the uk and found it very hard to get a job here- did a experiment- applied for numerous jobs using both a Christian name and my real name on the resume with qualifications work experience etc more or less the same, got interviews with my Christian name with nearly all applications- not even 1 with my real name, of course I couldn’t do to the interviews as it wasn’t my real name and the companies were expecting a European but this test says it all in oz

I do self identify, but still think they discriminate because of race or deselect because of race. Especially for a black Male. Its easier for a women or a women of color to get a the job because she is a legal care giver for children meaning jobs know that she is working to support a family in a positive way and is willing to take orders better. When they see a black male with a uncommon and different name they criminalize us a say we to manly and want be as passive, and to intimating to co-workers for certain Position. Also these corporation have selective AI technology that eliminates candidate's from the beginning by there first name and race. For example if a office is filled with educated privilege white male and female i don't think it would be a priority for them to hire someone from a different race that quickly. Also there is know reel oversite to monitor and check these things especially with multi million and billion dollar companies who lobby government official and people of power for there profit and prosperous endeavors. Most of these companies don't even get penalties, fine, or lose money because there are not diversified enough. Plus when we move up to mid-level and upper-level jobs and careers the whiter and less diverse it gets for those level and its mainly white women and white men at those levels. Plus many mid level and top position is often based on who you know and your network circle recommendation. I still self identify but I don't think its makes me a top candidate for a position. If any thing it makes it worse in the selection process in my opinion as a black male.

Race, gender, and height all play a role in the hiring process whether you believe it or not.

I think that hiring through social networks can also add to the problem. A lot of white people don't have close black friends and these white people work for will show what their networks look like. Occasionally a black person might get in as a token and that makes the company look less racist.
If companies want more black people in jobs that require education, they can easily find it by recruiting at historically black colleges and Universities. There are many of them across the Eastern US. Other minorites are losing out in the job market too but not nearly to the scale that black people are.

Fun fact if you send an identical resume you’ll probably get prescanned out of the process. This guy is being less than genuine

Tyra Banks did a show on this, eye opening, of course u will always have the deniers, I was an HR manager, I made sure the workplace looked like the community it served, I recruited from High Schools, Job Centers, online and print mediums, had an adundance of gualified candidates of all races, years later, I saw a young man whom I hired working in my bank, I remember his father coming in to thank me for giving his son the opportunity, they were from India. Yes, qualified candidates of all races is there, unless u practice Nepotism/Cronyism!

I think asking for somebody’s race on their applications should be illegal. It doesn’t matter. If you’re white black Asian female male I mean I know you should answer your female or male on it, but it doesn’t matter what race you are that’s ridiculous just credentials.

I always thought France was a liberal country with less racism.

I'm white and I often wish that I was black. Also in my household my entire family holds a secret. We all have a percentage of black in us. But my parents told my siblings and I not to mention it to anyone whatsoever. IDK why we were taught not to mention it, but it is sort of weird to me.

People shouldn’t get hired to check off an ethnicity. This video just contradicted itself by saying they need to represent everyone as well as getting the best person for the job. By monitoring skin colour you open the doors to racism!

Maybe it's different in most other fields, but in the social work and mental health professions discrimination against white men in hiring has become rampant post-2016.

Hiring people based on your color their skin is systematic racism. And it goes against the nineteen sixty four civil rights act. That says you cannot hire or fire someone. Based on the color of their skin there race their sex their religion or their Nationality. We had a civil
Rights movement the last time people thought this way. If people should be higher based on their qualifications and their experienc

I had no idea this was a thing, yet I’ve only been working for 7 years but still. It would explain why someone like me would get hired right on the spot than someone who’ve I met who didn’t, I didn’t get why at the time, but looking back, that person had an accent & ethnic name. With my Italian name, it make sense now

Laws like the Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to protect against discrimination in the hiring process but still completely oblivious to unspoken thought in the reasoning that's perhaps covered up with ghosting applicants and saying nothing which seems incredibly common practice today and certainly disruptive to the economy. Silence can technically violate it all day.

Perhaps a new law to require any legal job offer to also require a follow-up response within 4 weeks - a regulated national employment system to improve the economy. A hard binary yes or no with a reason - no maybe, no ghosting allowed.

Now it's the opposite. Instead of hiring people that wanna work they're only hiring women, minorities and younger people. Theres literally affirmative action in the hiring process. So nomatter what theres always goin to be discrimination.

OK hear me out. I've got a crazy idea that can instantly eliminate this whole superficial race war. What if people just started keeping lineages based on how long they've lived in their country? Then we could REWARD people by prioritizing based on how many years of service they performed for that country.

Think about it. The Native peoples would get priority pass to jobs that they are qualified to do. After that point all people who are related to someone who was in the country at the time of the founding gets next billing. Then you start prioritizing people based on how long they've been here contributing. Yes being related to a slave who did not contribute taxes, but DID contribute work labour would enter your relative into the US at the time of their slavery. Then you'd basically take ONLY the 'top tier' of applicants by year, evaluate their requirements against the job and pick the best applicant from the bunch.

I think it is hypocritical to say we should allow immigrant workers to prioritize themselves by racial superiority for simply having a different appearance. My suggested method has nothing to do with race. It has to do with years of service, sweat, blood and tears to this country. There were plenty of Asian immigrants back in the 1800s who our legal Asians are related to...that would put THOSE people ahead of the guy who came here last year. There are some black folks that would be ranked hired then some white folks. Its the most FAIR way I can suggest to assign work in North America as well as deter any illegal immigration in this country. This approach also encourages 'integration', marrying into older more established families which might promote more success in North America. I don't think paternal or maternal chain of your heritage should matter. Just identify the longest chain. You NEED to be related to that longest chain person. Not your spouse. Your kids naturally adopt the level of their higher tier parent.

If an immigrant cannot find a 'marital sponsor' into the country it should be exceedingly difficult to find work. You should be REQUIRED to create your own business and sell your products or services to gain success in North America...like you originally promised to do. If you were the business owner promoting economic success we should have no problem with you owning that company, but you should be required to follow the recruitment guidelines based on lineage for hiring staff.

The same goes for lower tier folks. If they have an amazing skill and create their own business they are absolutely able to own it, but hire others who are qualified and long term citizens. You should be able to continue as is, building and selling their own products, brand or skillset to the masses. Your success will be determined by the desire and skill in your trade and the community need or want for it. Basically ARTISTS and craftspeople will still be successful based on their artistry.

If you want to WORK FOR someone its based on years of service. If you want to CREATE or BUILD your own company its based on talent or that ability to pay / sponsor local talent.

But we're creating tiers, what if people at the top tier only marry people at the top tier. OK...think about it. Two people from the top tier marry have ONE child. Now that tier is halved...making it easier for the tier below to access higher paying jobs. Two top tier working folks would have less kids then a Top tier dude who married lower and their spouse didn't work if he can support that. It will balance itself out. These folks taking jobs STILL need to be educated in the correct degree and be qualified.

Lets say a top tier family had too many kids and couldn't pay for all of their schooling, then that kid would be expected to work a minimum wage job, put themselves through school BEFORE joining the qualified work force. If they weren't inclined, or academically achieving enough they'd be stuck with a priority pass to a minimum wage job. Oops.

We're going to end up with a hybrid equation for success combining years of service and wealth to succeed. But we will reward folks with making sure they'll survive in some type of employment if they're the families that's contributed the longest.

When would this formula be applied? On new job hiring. People would be discouraged from leaving their current employer IF they weren't a higher tier. They can apply to new roles but might not qualify to move. The current company would support you as long as you provide the levels of service they require....and are financially stable enough. So you'd probably want to work hard and try and ensure their success.

People moving between US and Canada are a little complicated. A lot of us have ancestors on both sides of the border. Its your prerogative how you want to handle that. I would suggest if someone is American with the longest service Canadian ancestor from the 1700s...but their ancestor down that branch immigrated into the US 100 years ago and now wants to come back maybe you have to dock them to be equal to the '1800' ancestors instead. Their relative did provide service to Canada but didn't provide ALL their years of service. There should be some kind of penalty.

What do you people think?
