How to Create a Personal Macro Workbook in Excel and Why You Need It (Part 1 of 4)

In this video series you will learn how to create a personal macro workbook. I also explain why you should use it.

Read the article and download the Excel file here:

The personal macro workbook is an Excel file that stores all of your personal macros. The file opens in the background every time you open Excel, which means your macros are easily accessible to run any time.

You will learn where the personal macro workbook file is stored on the computer and how to view it. This is great if you need to backup the file or copy it to a new computer.

I also explain how to add macro Buttons to the Excel Ribbon and Quick Access Toolbar. This makes it easy to run your macros on any open workbook.

Finally you will learn how to make a Yes/No message box (pop-up window) to appear before your macro code runs. This is critical if you have macro buttons in the ribbon, as an accidental button press could run a macro that could ruin your workbook.

I also have a free video training series on macros and VBA that will explain everything you need to know to get started. This covers writing your first macro, an explanation of the Excel object model and VBA programming language, how to automate simple Excel tasks, and how to create professional looking userforms.

Jon, Thanks for your video's. The Personal Macro is a great place to store my common macro routines. The one thing I have not been able to find an answer to. How can I make the variables in a calling macro visible to the Personal.xlsb macro?

Very Nice Video Series here. Working with Databases that dump or export into excel and other engineering database dump here as well. Combining them into one means less error. Two workbooks saved into one as csv for database interaction. Your information has been a success. I work with a lot of different workbooks that have vendors customers and costs. Now, I am working with PDF's, trying to get data from them into a excel workbook for up load. Any ideas on this? reading pdf charts and a tables. taking data off charts and building linear regression models is next.
