Hey! I'm in Estonia and I don't feel comfortable!
But it is about time Europe stopped relying on America as hard as it does.

Ironically, Trump has ended Brexit. We in the UK have no choice but to throw our lot with the Europeans come what may

The UK still has the EU, Baltic nations, Nordic nations and the Commonwealth, doesn't it? Time to put together another NATO like coalition, pronto.

For decades the UK's relationship with America has largely been one way traffic to the benefit of the US, same with the EU. Look at ASML having 50 billion Euros wiped off their value because the Dutch caved to pressure from the US to put tarriffs on their biggest customer (China). The number of times the EU / UK do things not in their own interest to please their masters in Washington is insane. The UK and EU would be far better off in the long term without this unhealthy, one sided relationship with the US. But that would of course require leaders with backbones...

Not just Estonia - it's all three Baltic states, plus Poland...plus anywhere else Putin wants in order to recreate the USSR and the Warsaw Pact area.

Dominic and Rory both right. This is disastrous for the UK, Europe and the West.

And yet many senior Tories (Truss, Mogg, and more) are gloating and celebrating Trump's return.

Putin is the only player who will justifiably be crowing with glee at these developments.

I can't stand Trump but he's right that we need to stand on our own two feet in defence terms. Harris also took this view.

America didn't mind Europe "not paying" so long as it still only bought American stuff e.g. F104 Vs CF105; F111K Vs TSR2.

Now that Europe can make it's Not so keen.

Estonia is a member of NATO. USA can not abadon a NATO member unless it missbehaves, as in the Suez 1956 example mentioned (attacking Egypt colonial style).
Turkey missbehaves now and then so NATO does not support her in say Syria. If Russia attacks a loyal ally you have to support that ally or the US alliance offer is worthless.

They won’t “get Ukraine”. Another false assertion from Stewart

Trump's dislike of NATO has been pretty clear and reasonable. European states need to pay their defence commitments. People in the comments are saying Europe needs a new NATO but Europe can't even fulfil the current one

I think this is the point where the American empire splits in 2,
somewhat reminiscent of the East and West Roman empires.

I wouldn’t worry about the Ukraine conflict based on Rory Stewart’s analysis

Europeans don’t want to pay for their own defence
