Technics SL-1200MK2

Quick video describing my Technics SL-1200MK2 turntable, why I got it, what I like about it, etc. It never breaks, so I don't have a servicing video for it. ;)

When I was shopping for a turntable last year, the Technics was a contender all the way to the end.  I don't have anything against direct drive tables, my previous (now my backup) table was a direct drive, a Pioneer PL 600.  It still works ok, but the suspension on it was so sensitive, I couldn't walk across the room without the needle jumping.  Other than that it's perfectly fine, lol.  Ultimately, it was price that drove my decision.  This was the first brand new turntable that I'd ever bought in my life, and the Technics is just too damned expensive, so that's why I went with the Pro Ject.  I love the classic look of those Technics tables, though, and even though its a dj table, I've heard that they sound pretty good, or you can goose it up to make it sound good.

Nice video thanks! ... So impactful in fact that you motivated me to pause the video half way through just so I could go and wash the lid of my brand new 1210GR! ... They get so dusty so fast and I really wanted to see it shine again. :) - True story, I really did this.

Such a classic deck. I was looking for one a few years ago when my Thorens turned up at a great price, so went that way instead. The SL1200 of course spawned a whole raft of aftermarket upgrades, I think to almost every part of the turntable. I've read some owners are of the opinion that a fully upgraded SL1200 can hang with almost any turntable out there, underpinned by the excellent speed stability of the direct drive. i had a pair of these, i could have sworn i had them back in 97 or 98. anyways i used them for djing and they were about $600 a piece new, i think. yes we did toss those dust covers early, but i regretted it eventually.

It's a really good looking one….I! It's so shiny lol! have a really awesome vintage one from my Big VC Brother Jeff Kempin…I can't wait to get it up and running this summer. It's pretty freaking awesome. Anyway, enjoy your videos so far :)

I did locate one on OfferUp for 1300 for a pair. I'm not that familiar with turntables but was always interested. Are there normally sets of two? And also what I need to purchase a mixer?

thinking about getting this as my first turn table, i read everywhere about a phono stage when it come to turntables. My amp doesnt have one, does this already have one built in? Can go directly RCA into my Integrated desktop amp???

Hey, I have this turntable but I'm not very handy at adjusting it. The needle went bad so I ordered one online and replaced it. It works but has a bit of a hissing sound. I know nothing about adjusting the weights on the back but I fiddled around with those. It sounds good but I think it would sound better if I could get rid of some of that hissing sound. Any ideas?
