Large crowds gather in Huntington Beach to protest Newsom stay-at-home orders

I live a few blocks from the beach in Huntington Beach, and what people don't realize, is that the beach NEVER closed. It's been open all along. I've been to the beach every day since March and it's been a pleasant experience with people social distancing and being considerate to others on the beach. The Governor trying to close it now, when things should be starting to open up, makes no sense, whatsoever. I was there over the weekend, and yes, there were quite a few people at the beach, but most everyone was social distancing and being responsible. To make a decision to close ONLY the OC beaches (as a punitive measure based on a press photo rather than actual data) is clearly an uninformed and biased action from the Governor. With the beach being open all along, there hasn't been a spike in cases of the virus in Huntington Beach and the cases have remained level at about 1% of the population since this whole thing started. We've been able to enjoy the beach and contain contraction of the virus without any problems so far, so why close the beach now? Think about it. The data speaks for itself despite what a photo may depict. We aren't in any more danger of the virus than we were before. Closing the beaches is an asinine, uninformed, and knee-jerk decision, at best. I fully support the protesters. Viva La Freedom!!! HB/OC PROUD!!!

Dear Gavin Newsome, Please bring more authoritarianism...don't allow people to make an honest living. Putting them out on the streets/adding to the already massive homeless population is sure to help out in the long-run!!

The people of California should be able to go to a beach if they want to if they wear a mask and are at least 6 feet from each other. If you don’t want to catch the virus then don’t leave the house that should be on you.
